Great Board - After you READ the Manual

GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming GT (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming GT (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This MB came right up and worked just like the manual says it should. I’ve only had it 3 weeks. I usually wait longer to write a reviews, but the community should know something about this board (see comment below). I stress tested this board for 5 days. If it’s going to have a problem, let’s have it now. No problem.

Cons: Gigabyte customer support is VERY slow (see comment below). I won’t deduct an egg. Customer support is slow everywhere. At least Gigabyte was there when I needed them, and they were very helpful.

Overall Review: BEWARE!!! The spec at Newegg says you get 8 SATA ports and 2 M.2 slots. The manually clearly says you don’t get to use them all at once. READ THE MANUAL! Download it before you buy. I did, and I kind’a read the it; but there’s a big table speaking to the SATA ports that I thought was about RAID modes. I’m not using RAID on this machine so I skipped the table. My bad. The table includes an exclusion list describing what happens when you use an M.2 SSD. I have a very fast SAMSUNG 950 PRO M.2 SSD installed. I put it in what appears to be the 1st M.2 port. The manual clearly says that if you use a very fast M.2 like my SAMSUNG in the 1st slot it will turn OFF 6 of the 8 SATA ports. Note, this behavior is not described in the specification listed by Newegg. Whereas it took me awhile to have Gigabyte tell me about this behavior and during that period, I was real mad. I’m not deducting an egg because the manual clearly says using M.2 slot 1 will turn off all of SATA ports on the main Intel storage controller, 6 ports. Further, The manual says all you have to do is move a single stick to slot 2 to get those ports back. All is good for me. Have fun. Now that I have read the manual, and I am using the board correctly, I love it.

Hard to Install !!!

ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler
ZALMAN CNPS9500A-LED 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

Pros: It is an absolutely great heat exchanger. It does its job very well. Its manufacturing is superb. I would be giving this guy 5 eggs if it weren’t for the Con below.

Cons: I had a very difficult time installing this heat exchanger on my MOBO, MSI P35D3. The mounting clip extends past the area reserved for the heat exchange on most boards. Generally in the past, this was not a problem. Now many high end boards have sophisticated heat-pipe coolers for the chipset, and many of these are situated right at the edge of the heat exchanger reserved space. If that is the case, this baby is going to be tough to impossible to install. I had to modify the way my MOBO’s chipset cooler was attached to the board to mount this guy. Many of the reviewers here had the same experience. I just didn’t think their problem would apply to me. Look at the picture of your MOBO. There will be a square surrounding the CPU that marks the heat exchanger space. If the chipset cooler is close to that mark especially on the Northbridge side, be careful.

Overall Review: Where there's a will; there's a way. This is a great cooler so I made it work. But, I love a challenge.

Best for My Requirement

Intel Core i9-11900KF - Core i9 11th Gen Rocket Lake 8-Core 3.5 GHz LGA 1200 125W None Integrated Graphics Desktop Processor - BX8070811900KF

Pros: - Inexpensive - Fast (I know there are faster, but this guy has plenty horsepower. - Rock solid

Cons: None

Overall Review: I used this chip to modernize a 6-year-old computer that has some expensive parts - memory, GPU, AIO cooler, SSDs, etc.. I wanted to ensure that I could use a very nice Thermaltake cooler, so I stayed with an LGA 1200 socket and chip. The new build works perfectly.

SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 1TB, PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280, Speeds Up-to 7,000MB/s Best for High End Computing, Gaming, and Heavy Duty Workstations (MZV8P1T0B/AM)

Pros: Quick, easy, fast, and solid.

Cons: None

Overall Review: Samsung SSDs in any package are my go-to. They simply do their job. Reading online reviews, it appears that some of them might have problems, but I've been building with them for years now. Mine all worked perfectly on first boot and are all still working today.

Solid Board

ASUS TUF GAMING Z590-PLUS LGA 1200 Intel Z590 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS TUF GAMING Z590-PLUS LGA 1200 Intel Z590 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This is not a fancy state-of-the-art (SOTA) board. That's why I bought it. I want solid and reliable. This is EXACTLY that.

Cons: Minor: If your build is relatively modern, i.e. it does NOT have an optical disk reader (the board comes with a disk that I didn't use at first), it's a little hard to find all the necessary and current drivers for this board online. ASUS wasn't keeping up with the BIOS and Drivers support website for this board. A quick chat with ASUS support pointed me at "WiFi" version of this board. Problem solved.

Overall Review: I love this board AND I love ASUS support. ASUS actually answers the phone and their email quickly. Yeah ASUS!!! I have been building banshee gaming computers since before computer gaming was a thing (I'm an old fart). This build is a refurbishment of a system that was SOTA 6 years ago. I wanted to reuse most of the old parts, in particular the very nice Thermaltake AIO cooler. So, I wanted to stay with an LGA 1200 socket - not SOTA but good enough. This board has a small challenge when using old parts. I am also reusing a GPU that was SOTA 6 years ago but nowhere near that today, an AMD R9 Fury. I had to turn off BIOS ReSize BAR feature before the system would boot with my older GPU. No biggie, my 6-year-old R9 Fury doesn't have enough memory to utilize that feature anyway, but the BIOS default is "On", so be aware.

Very, Very, Nice

Bluedio V (Victory) Pro Patented PPS12 Drivers Wireless Bluetooth headphones
Bluedio V (Victory) Pro Patented PPS12 Drivers Wireless Bluetooth headphones

Pros: First, I am not an audiophile. I simply love listening to high quality great music. These headphones work very well for my application. I get up early in the morning to work. I’m a photographer. I do my best editing at 4 AM. I also love to listen to great music at levels that would be unacceptable for my sleeping wife when I work – hence these puppies. 99% of the time I use them in Bluetooth mode, and they are flawless in my office. In fact, they are pretty good anywhere upstairs. If I get a cup of coffee – downstairs and on the other side of the house (~40 feet away) – they work, but I don’t recommend anything Bluetooth for such. I can't hear the difference between Bluetooth and S/PDIF. I'm sure it's measurable, BUT I can't tell. Bottom line: I am well pleased.

Cons: They are heavier and bulkier than the headphones they replace. No problem. They are worth it.

NO Hassle!!!

These guys delivered immediately. I ordered some memory and HD adapters from Newegg on the same order. These guys beat Newegg to my door, and if you have been doing business with Newegg for awhile you know they are as fast as online gets. The batteries I ordered were packed well and are working as advertised.
