Good motherboard
Pros: The lights on the board are OK but not necessary for me.
Cons: One more case fan connector on the board would have been nice (there are 3, my case has 4 fans so needed a spliter). The Bios interface takes some getting used to - read the manual carefully in particular if you are doing a RAID set up.
Overall Review: I didn't need a true gamer motherboard (I am a gamer but don't do shooters or LAN parties) but was concerned about some of the reviews for the non-Aorus Gigabyte boards. So this seemed to be the right alternative with a bit more than enough higher end features.
Nice quality SSD
Overall Review: After all those years with HDDs I finally did the research and got comfortable with going SSD. For some things (boot and game loading times), the speed improvement is pretty dramatic. This drive as rated at twice the memory turnover as the QVO series without costing that much more. However it doesn't have the power failure memory protection that you get when you spend more. I decided a UPS would be nice to have anyway for power quality and proper system shutdown in case of power outage - so the lack of memory saving on the SSD wasn't a problem. If you are putting this in a 3.5" drive bay remember to buy a cheap bracket to mount it in the bay.
Good CPU - why spend extra for graphics?
Overall Review: I'm a non-shooter gamer so I'll always want a graphics card. Why spend more money and power for integrated graphics if you'll never use it? And this is a nice improvement at a reasonable price over my 5 years ago I5 (2 more cores, a bit faster and lower power).
Good modular power supply
Overall Review: Power supplies have really changed since my last build 6 years ago. Modular is a big improvement in connecting everything and I suppose making it easier to replace the PSU if it fails. And everything is now much more power efficient. Many of the PSU web sites have calculators for the size unit you need. I was originally think the old 700 or 800 but this 550 should still leave me with a big power margin. My games are not so power demanding, but even so this PSU hardly gets warm and its very quiet fan seldom runs.
Good mid-cost graphics card
Overall Review: I do games but not shooters, so this card was fine for me. In particular it is a good alternative to the very long version of the same card. Leaves much more room for cables between the card and the drive bays without being much taller than the long card. It has DisplayPorts so if you want to use your old DVI monitor you need to get a cheap DisplayPort to DVI converter.
Works fine
Overall Review: I wanted to use my old DVI connected monitor needed a converter for the DisplayPorts on new graphics cards. This works fine with no obvious difference if video quality.
