Runs so hot!

ASRock Phantom Gaming X Radeon VII 16GB HBM2 PCI Express 3.0 x16 Video Card Radeon VII 16G
ASRock Phantom Gaming X Radeon VII 16GB HBM2 PCI Express 3.0 x16 Video Card Radeon VII 16G

Pros: -Similar performance to GTX 1080 Ti/RTX 2080 and has 16GB VRAM! -Great as computing and gaming graphics card!

Cons: -Heat issues. -Expensive. -A bit noisy (but not an issue for me) when under load.

Overall Review: I already knew this video card would not be a good performance value for gaming (even the AMD RX 5700 XT can match this card's performance to certain games at a lower price!). I picked this card over the RTX 2080 since ray-tracing feature did not appeal to me as not a lot of games supports it and I don't want to pay as an "early-adopter". I hated Nvidia's anti-consumer business practices and I wanted an all-rounder GPU. This GPU appealed to me as gaming and computing card. I needed a GPU for gaming that has more than 8GB VRAM since playing games in 2160p resolution in the future would certainly require more VRAM, making it "future-proof". I also needed a GPU for computing since I plan to delve into machine/deep learning applications requiring more VRAM to process. The gaming performance performs similarly to GTX 1080 Ti. However, I bought a game called Frostpunk during Steam's 2019 Summer sale and this card struggled badly during the late game of the "New Home" game scenario. Playing at 1080p at the highest settings and even with i9-9900K (@ 5.0Ghz all cores), the FPS dropped to around 45 and the temperature was around 80-85 C! (Noise is not an issue for me.) I had to have at least 1030mV at stock speeds to reduce the temperature just a bit and not crash. Other games (that doesn't use DirectX 12) I throw at it really does well! I'm just a bit disappointed that AMD Radeon Settings doesn't have the similar functions of Nvidia's GeForce Experience that automatically adjust the optimized settings for you. Besides card's performance, I noticed one time when I booted my computer to Windows 10, my screen went to have the color "blue/purple" until I rebooted the computer and it was all gone. I don't know if it indicates some defects on the GPU but I hope it is a driver issue. I only experience screens with yellow/green colors whenever I perform clean graphics driver installation after using DDU. I also run 3D Mark stress tests' Time Spy Stress Test and Firestrike Stress Test. I was able to run two Time Spy Stress Tests (one passed and one failed) and many iterations after that, the stress test keeps crashing. For the Firestrike Stress Test, I was able to run four to five times where two of them only passed due to temperature issues. If you are curious about my computer case, I have Corsair 570X with six high static pressure fans. Heat is the problem with this card. The AIB partners of AMD should have been allowed to create their own custom heatsink solutions and not similar to the reference one. I dislike how the plastic casing around the heatsink hinders the hot air to flow out.
