Only Drive I Trust

Western Digital RE3 WD1002FBYS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital RE3 WD1002FBYS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: RELIABLE. Fast. Quiet. Cool. Nuff said. This is a one fantastic drive for use in extreme situations such as supporting a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device.

Cons: Nada. None!

Overall Review: I bought 5 of these drives for my QNAP 509P NAS. They have been running in a RAID 5 configuration for over 3 months serving video media without a single hiccup. Bought a sixth drive as a ready/hot spare for the RAID but suspect I won't need it anytime soon. I did a lot of reseach looking for a reliable 1T drive that could run 24/7/365. I think I found it in the RE3 line. Rock solid performance. I am one Happy Camper!

Most Critical Review

Total Loss of Faith in Seagate HD's

Seagate BarraCuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Seagate BarraCuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap, fast, quiet, and cool running.

Cons: Totally unreliable. I am now on my 3rd ST3250410AS since my original purchase of this drive. Each drive lasts a few months and then starts to develop r/w errors. Latest drive, received from Seagate on RMA about 2 months ago, now has started the same trend. Used Seatools to lock out errors (21 blocks) as directed by Seagate only to have more crop up today. I would never use this drive for OS as it can't be trusted. I use it as a temp scratch drive for video file work. No more RMA's - headed for the trash bin.

Overall Review: Buy this one at your own risk. If it is working fine now, it won't last long and will fail when you need it most. Seagate needs to dramatically improve quality control for me to ever considering buying their products again.

Works Great as USB Dock; Not So Much as a Cloner!

Hard Drive Dock, Inateck USB 3.0 to SATA Dual Bay External Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5 or 3.5 HDD, SSD with Hard Drive Duplicator and Cloner Function, Support 10TB, FD2002
Hard Drive Dock, Inateck USB 3.0 to SATA Dual Bay External Hard Drive Docking Station for 2.5 or 3.5 HDD, SSD with Hard Drive Duplicator and Cloner Function, Support 10TB, FD2002

Pros: Great Concept. Like the Design.

Cons: Cloner does not work reliably.

Overall Review: Really wanted to like this unit. First one I received would not work in clone mode and was swiftly replaced by the manufacturer. Replacement unit worked for one cloning operation and has not worked since. Not worth the trouble of going through the replacement process again.

Very Disappointed in Drive and Samsung

SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4 ST2000DL004 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4 ST2000DL004 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Large Capacity. Very inexpensive.

Cons: Unreliable (kiss of death for a hard drive). Samsung's poor support.

Overall Review: Worst drive I have ever purchased. I have six of these drives which are used in my HTPC and an external USB3/ESATA back-up enclosure. I have had to RMA (another story in itself) three of the drives thus far because of sector error issues. Luckily, I kept some of my old WD RE3 1TB drives and I am in the process of reinstalling them as I ponder my next step in increasing storage capacity (which won't have anything to do with Samsung drives). If you value your data, look elsewhere for large capacity drives. These drives are just too failure prone for me to sleep well at night.

Worst Drive I Have Ever Purchased

Seagate BarraCuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Seagate BarraCuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Light and Quiet. Light weight makes it easy to ship back and forth to SEAGATE for replacement when it fails :(

Cons: Most unreliable drive I have ever experienced. Original drive failed after about 10 months of extremely light use and then I entered the RMA Zone. Two days ago, my FOURTH replacement RMA drive failed. SEAGATE refuses to send me anything other than ANOTHER RMA "certified" drive under their warranty program though tech support acknowledged this has been a "problem" drive for more than a few. I am amazed that SEAGATE is even still selling this drive. With that said, I have purchased my last SEAGATE drive and will probably mount this one as a visual reminder to look elsewhere for my future HD needs.

Overall Review: I used to swear by SEAGATE but have had to move over to WD. My two QNAP NAS boxes are populated with ten WD 1T RE3 drives. Not cheap but seems you have to pay the price to get any sense of security these days with HD purchases. Even though these RE3's are "enterprise-level" drives, one of thse had to be replaced due to hard errors. Seems none of the current HD manufacturers has figured out their core QA/QC issues. Seems this was not so much an issue when the majority of drives were made in the U.S. and not farmed out across the planet.
