Great mid-range graphics
Pros: Its hard to say anything bad about this thing, considering my previous card was an X800GTO 256mb... However, this thing SCREAMS!! Finally playing all of my favorite games (HL2, Doom 3, Warsow, C&C3, CitiesXL, L4D2 and others) completely cranked to the gills. What's better, is with DX10/11 support that I've never had before, I can finally start playing some newer titles and looking at other reviews out there, I know that it can take the heat!
Cons: Its not a 5970 and I only have one? That's about all I can think of...hehe... Was frustrated that Newegg took 4 days to process the order, which prolonged my suffering of excitment, but that's nothing wrong with the card :)
Overall Review: Mobo: MSI K9A2-CF (also purchased for an overall upgrade from an Abit NF-M2S) CPU: AMD 4200+ 2.2ghz (Liquid cooled) RAM: USModular Cold Fusion (800mhz, 4-4-4-12) Very awesome upgrade!
A swing and a miss...
Pros: Purchased a while back to brand match with my case, and it was great for a while... The USB port still (sorta) works!
Cons: It died after a few months. Windows could only intermittently see it at first, then eventually just stopped altogether. Also, the USB port has always thrown a "power surge on hub" error, when waking the computer from sleep mode, which is disconcerting...It seems like a BIOS update helped, but I had to roll back b/c the new BIOS caused more problems than it solved. All that to say: maybe there's hope for this device, but I don't have time or energy to spend on troubleshooting it further.
Overall Review: I love rosewill cases. They're cheap, decently built, attractive, and I have yet to get a lemon. This card reader, however, is a disappointment.
So far so good
Pros: It's plenty fast for my needs Works in Linux w/ kernel 5.14 or later (poor to no ray tracing support yet, however)
Cons: Card keeps itself cool pretty well, but dumps a lot of waste heat into the case. I accidentally cooked a motherboard before I realized how poor my ventilation was performing after the upgrade.
Overall Review: So long as it lives a long life, I'd say it's another solid GPU from MSI, well worth the money
Highly abused...so far so good
Overall Review: Bought 4...They're in a RAID 5 array. I've been unintentionally beating the heck out of them, whilst trying to figure out exactly how I wanted to set them up & use them. Many terabytes (probably approaching 20) have been transferred and they seem perfectly happy. It's only been a couple weeks, though....
Great mid-range CPU
Overall Review: So glad to finally be back to sensibly priced performance and sockets with real, viable upgrade paths from AMD! My new build is so much faster than I thought even possible and I know having this chip at the heart of it, is largely to blame for the massive gains over my old PC. Cheers AMD - good to have you back & to be back with you :)
My new build SCREAMS...buuut
Overall Review: Went with these due to overall high customer rating & good reviews, plus reasonable price-to-size ratio for true NVMe disks (at least at the time). Now on to the buuut....It's hard for me to know how much of the extreme performance of my new system is down to the raw speed of the drives, vs. CPU/RAM, vs. the fact that I have two in software RAID0. My previous system also had dual NVMe SSDs in RAID0 but was no where near this fast, so I just don't know. Perhaps more research would have found me something even faster without breaking the bank, but guess I'll never know! I'm very happy with this purchase!
