Almost perfect

ESET Smart Security 2015 - 1 PC - Download
ESET Smart Security 2015 - 1 PC - Download

Pros: Super light resource footprint. Visually pleasing interface. Does everything, and most of those are done pretty well. I've tried almost all security products including Kaspersky, Avast, AVG, Comodo. Some are unnecessarily complex, and most use resources heavily. Almost all hook so deeply into system calls that is totally unnecessary. For example, Kaspersky changes the security context of normal processes as a method of security hardening. This creates headaches any time you need to do simple things like force-close a process. ESET does not do any of these things and I hope it stays lightweight, unintrusive and powerful.

Cons: Firewall rules editor is deep in several dialogs of advanced options when most products have it easily accessible. In addition over 50 default filters have preset Allow/Block values which can't be edited at all, only disabled and enabled. This forces having to manually re-create any filters you want to control (for services, for example.) Real time scanning exemption creation is buggy. After creating the first few exemptions the program stops recognizing the meaning of checking the box to Remember this rule and the only way to add it is digging several dialogs deep (again, to another commonly used feature) to manually type in the full path of the file. Which, if you're unzipping, also forces you to disable protection so the file can be created, leaving the system at risk.

Overall Review: I don't use Web and Email (including protocol filtering and anti-phishing protection) or Parental control. They're not needed with real time protection and a typical router with a built in firewall for basic malformed packet filtering. OpenDNS is a better alternative for Parental Control and anti-phising, if you need that.

Stay away if running Windows Server

ASRock Z97 Extreme4 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock Z97 Extreme4 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Ultra fast boot. Pretty BIOS. Internet BIOS flash. MOSFET heatskins. Many more, however...

Cons: Intel intentionally crippled the driver component of the network interface on this motherboard. They have an exclusion in the WHQL drivers to prevent their installation on Server, for no valid technial reason. It's a pure money grab, or "value add" for their ISV's that they can enforce thanks to locking down the bootloader with UEFI Secure Boot. Well, Intel, you won't ever succeed trying to "license" my hardware on a "per-OS" basis. There's always a way to hack it, and as painful as it can be to with UEFI it still is possible. I'm write this from another computer with an Atheros interface. Perhaps ASRock should have done their testing selected an interface which works with at least all modern versions of Windows. I'm vastly disappointed by the poor quality assurance from ASRock here and despite the great chips, Intel is shooting itself in the foot with this kind of nonsense.

Great AC solution for laptops without it built-in

Intel 7260HMW IEEE 802.11AC, dual-band, 2x2 Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth 4.0 Mini PCI Express combo Adapter - 867 Mbps+300Mbps - Internal
Intel 7260HMW IEEE 802.11AC, dual-band, 2x2 Wi-Fi plus Bluetooth 4.0 Mini PCI Express combo Adapter - 867 Mbps+300Mbps - Internal

Pros: - Easily beats out the fastest USB 3.0 adapters I've found by nearly 2x on download (RX) - Tops out near theoretical maximum of 433mbps in each direction - Better range than USB adapter since it uses the entire antenna on your laptop which usually wraps around the screen

Cons: - Caps out on RX around 370-380mbps for me according to LAN Speed Test, slightly short of theoretical 433mbps - Slower upload (TX) speeds around 280mbps, maybe owing to the antenna configuration on my particular laptop

Overall Review: - Same 2x2 as the fastest USB adapters but my laptop only has 2 antennas anyway - Haven't tried simultaneous RX/TX since I don't see an option for that in LAN Speed Test but I don't doubt the 650-750mbps others are reporting - My laptop (Acer Aspire V5) is supposed to be a difficult "complete teardown" for any kind of replacement. It's a breeze as long as you open it from the bottom. The casing pops right off without any cables or ribbons to unhook, making for an easy <15 minute install - I have far more experience with desktops and I've only swapped an SSD into a laptop before. Don't let this scare you, it's not at all difficult - The router I'm using is an Asus RT-AC68U, it's one of the newest as of Nov. '13 but still "draft" AC. 80mhz is needed on the 5ghz band to get these speeds

Faster than most wired networks, consitent 150mbps+

EDIMAX EW-7811UTC AC600 Dual-band USB 2.0 Wireless Mini Adapter, ideally for upgrading Laptop, desktop, Macbook or Ultrabook with 433/150Mbps data rates
EDIMAX EW-7811UTC AC600 Dual-band USB 2.0 Wireless Mini Adapter, ideally for upgrading Laptop, desktop, Macbook or Ultrabook with 433/150Mbps data rates

Pros: No dorpouts with this adapter, clean driver install, no issues at all. The only surprise was that it was able to hit 250mbps which according to the 433/150mbps spec should not be possible, but it did max out there several times on Rx speed. Looks great too and doesn't get nicked like bigger adapters.

Cons: None yet

Can't ask for much more

ADATA 16GB S102 Pro Advanced USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Speed Up to 100MB/s (AS102P-16G-RBL)
ADATA 16GB S102 Pro Advanced USB 3.0 Flash Drive, Speed Up to 100MB/s (AS102P-16G-RBL)

Pros: Hits 100 MBytes / sec on every machine I tried it on, and probably capped by my interface at 20-5 MByte / sec write, Also picked up a 6' extender (StarTech) and speeds are not at all diminished. I read some of the other reviews, so I thought I'd mention the cap fits very well on the back of the drive. No issues there. It's one of the coolest looking and smallest flash drives I've had

Cons: None, but don't misplace it because it can take a while before you find it given how small it is.

Overall Review: Delivers true on USB 3.0

Terrible case strips basic functionality

Incipio Case For iPhone 5 / 5S
Incipio Case For iPhone 5 / 5S

Pros: The NGP is known to be the best material for protecting the iPhone, bar none.

Cons: Extremely flawed execution prevents pressing down of the power button. This is invariably, endlessly frustrating. It's unbelievable that the case would be shipped with this flaw, ruining Incipio's formerly great reputation.

Overall Review: By the time I tried this case on I was outside of my return window. Don't make the same mistake!
