amd + ati = winning combo

HP Laptop Pavilion AMD Turion II Dual-Core M520 (2.3GHz) 4GB Memory 320GB HDD ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 15.6" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit DV6-2144NR

Pros: -Plays stalker at full settings full rez with no fps drops -Can cruise secondlife mainland on my motorcycle -Idles at 25 watts, peaks at 80 watts -extremely bright display -little glowing lights and logo's everywhere -AMD ATI COMBO!!!

Cons: -slightly dim spot in the upper left corner. I wonder if this one was handled a bit too rough in shipping. -panel slightly bent on the left side. Again, rough shipping? -I cant stand the keyboard. The keys are way too big and sometimes they miss/dont get pressed all the way. -Windows blech, this thing is upgrading to Linux this weekend!

Overall Review: 1. electricity: I bought this laptop in response to a 190 dollar electricity bill I was served. I'm only going to use my pc when I absolutely need that extra 10fps (hardly ever). I've done the math and this laptop is going to save me 25 dollars a month on electricity. My pc used 500 watts and I would leave it on all night. This laptop will run all day and get shut off at night. I estimate 4 hours of gaming, and 6 hours of coding/work. that means 4 hours at 80 watts and 6 at 25. Not bad considering my pc uses 500 watts when i'm gaming and 280 when I'm twiddling my thumbs. 2. gaming: As listed in pro's this thing plays stalker fine, maxed out. and only hit 80 watts doing it. I'm a big gamer and this laptop seems to be perfect for that. I'm also a content creator in secondlife (sometimes I am social there too). I need to be able to build and test what I build. This laptop is definitely fast enough for all that. 3. amd + ati: I really hate Intel and Nvidia. Always will.

Whats that smell?

SOLEUS AIR 4-in-1 Portable Air Conditioner/Heater/Dehumidifier/Fan 12,000 BTU Cooling Capacity LX-120HP
SOLEUS AIR 4-in-1 Portable Air Conditioner/Heater/Dehumidifier/Fan 12,000 BTU Cooling Capacity LX-120HP

Pros: -When the compressor kicks on, cool air is generated. -Heat and exhaust vents/ducts were easy to set up. -The castors on the bottom of this A/C make it easy to be moved.

Cons: -Motor that controls the opening and closing of vents on the front burned out after the 2nd bootup. This means the A/C is permanently cooling the spot of floor directly in front of it. -The unit has some physical damage on the top right. It looks as if it were hit by something causing the panels to pull apart slightly. -Terrible customer service from the company (not newegg). -Compressor does not always turn on when going into A/C mode.

Overall Review: During the first run we tested the swing functionality of the unit. Basically the vents open and close, to circulate the air. After turning it on for the 2nd time, we smelled a strong burning smell that faded after a minute or so. We tried the swing function again and the vents only open 1/4 of the way now, which means the air flow is always pointed at the ground. Also to get the compressor to kick on I have to switch modes a few times. I'll tape a fin to the front to redirect the air upwards, maybe it'll get me through the summer.

Fool me twice...

iBUYPOWER Desktop PC LAN Warrior 5970SLCF Phenom II X6 1090T (3.20GHz) 8GB DDR3 2TB HDD Dual ATI Radeon HD 5970 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Pros: -Specs look good on paper. -Very cool case, with good cooling POTENTIAL. -CPU runs at or lower then room temp.

Cons: -Insufficient cooling. The case has only 1 intake fan. Thats right ONE. Its only 40 or so CFM and is partially obstructed by the hard drive. -The best Futuremark score I could get was 9600. -Video cards on the healthier system of the two that I owned would idle between 70 and 80 degrees C. This is with an ambient temperature of 76 degrees F. At max load I saw temperatures of 110 degrees C.

Overall Review: I had two of these systems. The first one had 1 card that was DOA and problems with the motherboard. The second system was having major problems with graphics glitches, and could not score above 9600 in 3dmark. All of the fans on this system are around 40 CFM, there is one intake, one exhaust and one for the water-cooling radiator. This is not a good setup. To make matters worse, the board is MicroATX so the cards are literally against each other, building heat. The single 40CFM exhaust is not enough to dissipate the heat these massive cards put out... The system has good cooling potential though. NZXT makes a fan that can be put on the side. It is a 200mm fan that puts out 160CFM. You can also have 2 exhaust fans at the top of the case. I would also recommend replacing the fans and going with at least 90cfm all the way around.

dissapointing

ASUS Eee PC EEEPC901-GP010X Green Intel Atom 8.9" WSVGA 1GB Memory 12GB SSD Netbook
ASUS Eee PC EEEPC901-GP010X Green Intel Atom 8.9" WSVGA 1GB Memory 12GB SSD Netbook

Pros: /* pros */ -solid construction. shell feels solid, not flimsy. feels as if its made to last. -Nice paint job, love the green! -To some degree, it can handle OpenGL. I was able to run Second Life at around 9fps -Great looking screen! -Blazing fast CPU and memory.

Cons: /* cons */ -Battery will last NO LONGER than 1.5 hours. I tested this, even at idle. -They keys require a direct hit, and most of the time a firm press to register a key hit. The '/' key is especially bad, I have to hit it 2 or 3 times before it will work. -NO LINUX!? I wasn't able to find a Linux version. -Flaky booting. I had tons of problems trying to boot this off of a SDCard. I finally broke down and bought a usb cd/dvd rom drive. -Obscure hardware, impossible to find drivers. It has been very difficult finding wireless and WIRED drivers for this. If you are using M$ then that wont be a problem. -2 SSD (drives). A 4 and an 8 gig drive. It would be nice to have just 1 12g drive.

Overall Review: I'm hosing mine down and putting FreeBSD on it. The biggest challenge is the ethernet drivers. It seems blazing fast, and I can get over the keyboard. I think for the price though I could have done better. Just compare the specs and prices of all the netbooks and you can get one exactly the same for $100 less.

great card, great price, always newegg

Thermaltake CRYSTAL ORB (A1178) Ball VGA Chipset Cooling Fan
Thermaltake CRYSTAL ORB (A1178) Ball VGA Chipset Cooling Fan

Pros: -shiny n perty thats about all

Cons: -keeps my gpu hoter than stok heatsink w/no fan! -seems as if not real copper, like maby copper plated or somethin -not a big deal, but its kinda loud (fan kontroller fixes that)

Overall Review: overall, the performance isnt worth a crud, i definately would not reccomend this product..its kinda loud, but thats not a big prolblem w/ a fan controller
