Tremendous value

Intel Celeron G530 - Celeron Sandy Bridge Dual-Core 2.4 GHz LGA 1155 65W Intel HD Graphics Desktop Processor - BX80623G530
Intel Celeron G530 - Celeron Sandy Bridge Dual-Core 2.4 GHz LGA 1155 65W Intel HD Graphics Desktop Processor - BX80623G530

Pros: - Price/value. It's really nice to see Intel offering such a good "entry level CPU." Sandy Bridge for the win. - Speed/power. It's essentially a higher end Core 2 Duo in terms of what it can do and paired with 8GB of RAM it screams. It's easily more than enough for most people, especially since the on-die GPU decodes HD video very well. - Low power consumption. - Stock cooler is nice and quiet and keeps the CPU running at pretty reasonable temperatures

Cons: - At this point, with a CPU this good, why is Intel still using the Celeron name? - While they're much easier to use than they were on socket 775 CPUs and I had no problems, I'm still not a fan of Intel's pushpin coolers. - The memory controller only goes up to 1066 Mhz, so any faster RAM (most DDR3 sold nowadays) will be underclocked. For what this CPU will generally be used for (HTPCs and general purpose home PCs for office work, web browsing, etc), you probably won't notice, but it's worth mentioning here.

Great deal, questionable packaging by NewEgg

Sony WiFi Built-in Blu-ray Disc Player BDP-S390
Sony WiFi Built-in Blu-ray Disc Player BDP-S390

Pros: Great value Blu-Ray player. If you don't need 3D, it's hard to do better than this model for players under $100. I already had one of these (bought new for $90) in another room, so I knew what I was getting. This player loads Blu-Rays quickly, has good built in Wi-Fi and a huge selection of online streaming audio and video content, plays SACDs (including user-authored SACD-R disks with the current firmware), and has pretty wide compatibility with different files types for DLNA streaming (including MKVs and 50hz videos, which the PS3 won't play). $90 new for this player was pretty good, but $50 (aftet coupon) refurbished is a steal.

Cons: Was shipped in the manufacturer's retail box. It arrived fine, but still, it clearly wasn't meant to be shipped without an external box. With the pretty broad selection of music playback features (especially SACD, but also DLNA, online streaming services, and of course regular audio CDs), a front LED display would be nice so it could be used with the TV off, but that's a minor complaint. No batteries included for the remote, but that's typical of refurbs.

Overall Review: With Blu-Ray's ever evolving copyright protection, I trust Sony to provide firmware updates more than other brands since Blu-Ray is their format.

Great cooling at a low price

Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes
Cooler Master Hyper TX3 - CPU Cooler with 3 Direct Contact Heatpipes

Pros: - It's only $20. - 3 copper heat pipes, quiet fan, plenty of fins. - Mounts with a stock-style clip for AMD sockets and stock-style pushpins for Intel sockets. - On a stock clocked Phenom II X4 840 using Arctic Silver Céramique 2 thermal compound and a Arctic Cooling fluid bearing fan (clearanced on another site for $2 shipped) as a pull fan, the core temps have been about 17c idle, 20-24c for everyday non-CPU intensive use, and 30c load. Wow.

Cons: - It would be nice if there was a way to keep the AMD clips secured to the heatsink so installation would be easier. - Didn't come with the wire clips shown in the listing. Instead, it's a newer version with plastic brackets that screw onto the fans that are then mounted on the heatsink. The included fan is pre-mounted but it looked like it would be easier to install the pull fan with the clips. Since fan screws can be frustrating, I wasn't crazy about this. Cooler Master said that the change came about because too many users (presumably not having seen the instructional video embedded here) found the clip method too difficult. Minor quibbles, though. This cooler is awesome.

Overall Review: It's probably best to take the motherboard out of the case for installation. Even with the stock-style mounting, as it's still easier to get the cooler mounted that way as you have a lot more room to work with. Anyway, if you want/need an aftermarket cooler but don't want to spend a lot or install custom back plates, this is the one to get.

Great value, great cooling tons of features for the price.

Rosewill Smart One ATX Mid Tower Computer Case, Black interior, comes with three Fans-1x Front Blue LED 120mm Fan, 1x Rear 120mm Fan, 1x Top 120mm Fan, Option Fans-2x Side 120mm Fan
Rosewill Smart One ATX Mid Tower Computer Case, Black interior, comes with three Fans-1x Front Blue LED 120mm Fan, 1x Rear 120mm Fan, 1x Top 120mm Fan, Option Fans-2x Side 120mm Fan

Pros: - Plenty of room on the inside. - Three Silverstone FN121 fans (which sell here for $10 or more each) included and pre-mounted in the front, rear, and top. Move lots of air pretty quietly. - Two mounts on the side panel for 80mm or 120mm fans. - Cable routing holes on the motherboard side as well as a CPU cutout for installing coolers that need backplates added/removed. - Bottom-mounted PSU. - Three-way molex to 3 pin fan header splitter included, as are plenty of screws and standoffs. - Vented expansion slot covers. - All black in the inside. - Top compartment with the extra USB ports (and the front audio I/O ports) inside is a neat idea for when you're charging/syncing a phone or portable media player. Great value.

Cons: - The tool-less drive bays with the lock on only one side feel like they could be a little more secure. - When unscrewing a screw from a motherboard standoff, it unscrewed the standoff instead, which required a bit of work to fix and made me question the quality of the screws and standoffs a little. - More HDD bays would've been nice in lieu of so many external bays. How many people are going to need two 3.5" external bays? At least drop one of those for an HDD bay (I found they didn't quite fit if you tried to go that route).

Overall Review: Got it for $40 during a Shell Shocker sale. It's a very good deal at the usual $50 price but at $40 it's a steal. The cooling is fantastic: My GPU temps are down about 5-10c idle and 10-15c load, motherboard/northbridge down abouit 15C, and hard drives all down a few degrees each. I also got a Cooler Master TX3 for my CPU (Phenom II X4 840 at stock clock speed). Using it in this case with an added exhaust fan on the heatsink (an Arctic Cooling fluid bearing fan that another site has been clearancing lately), my CPU has been at about 17c idle, 19-24c light use, and 30c full load.

Awesome

Thermaltake CL-P0114 120mm Big Typhoon CPU Cooler
Thermaltake CL-P0114 120mm Big Typhoon CPU Cooler

Pros: - Very, very quiet. - Extremely effective. Got my CPU temp down 10-15 degrees Celsius and my system is running faster. Even my hard drives are running cooler, I guess because the fan is so huge. - Installs with backing plate instead of push pins: A lot of people dislike this because you have to remove the motherboard, but I love it because I HATE the push pins. - Included thermal grease/paste is in a squeeze packet instead of being pre-applied.

Cons: - Huge (and heavy). Fit perfectly in my case and with my motherboard (ABit SG-80DC) but your mileage may vary

Overall Review: The good easily outweighs the bad here. A great cooler.

ARCTIC COOLING ALPINE 7 92mm CPU Cooler
ARCTIC COOLING ALPINE 7 92mm CPU Cooler

Pros: - Incredibly quiet, to the point that it's almost jarring. - Less chance for user error during installation than with the thumbscrews on the stock fan.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Overall Review: I bought a new case that was noisy due to the front ventilation hole. Looked up some quiet fans and found this. It worked like a charm. It isn't just marketing when they say it's "quieter than a whisper."
