A steal below $700

Philips 42" 1080p LCD HDTV
Philips 42" 1080p LCD HDTV

Pros: Bright colors, excellent picture on HD channels, easy set-up, and the speakers are better than other LCD TVs I've seen. And then the price below $700 - a real deal here.

Cons: The TV has a lot of connections but I wish it had an extra connection for component cables and also DVI connection for my PC.

Overall Review: This is my first LCD TV and I felt like I got this TV at better than Black Friday price. My complaints are minor compared to what I got for the TV at its price - definite 5 Eggs. I use an old PS2 for a DVD player and the movies look crisp and better than on my old TV (I'm using component cables) - Wraith of Khan looks awesome.

Most Critical Review

Only had Blu-Ray drive - nothing else

LG Electronics Blu-ray Disc Combo Internal SATA 12X Lightscribe with 3D Play Back, Model CH12LS28 Retail
LG Electronics Blu-ray Disc Combo Internal SATA 12X Lightscribe with 3D Play Back, Model CH12LS28 Retail

Pros: The Blu-Ray drive works - it's silent and can read blu-ray disks, DVD, and CD - but so other blu-ray drives from other manufacturers.

Cons: No software, no screws, no cables - nothing but the drive. Terrible Customer Support service.

Overall Review: Seriously, I first bought an OEM blu-ray drive but then discovered that there is no free blu-ray player so I can watch blu-ray movies on my PC - so I bought this LG blu-ray drive for my PC - which on the box says it comes with a CD that has software - Power2Go, Power Producer, Media Show, Powere DVD 3 BD (bluray) Edition, Power Back-up, and LabelPrint. The drive did not come with NO SOFTWARE - which is what I bought the drive for. So I called LG's Customer Service line, to see about getting the software that I PAID FOR and after more than 30 minutes of waiting for the Customer Service, the rep started telling me that LG DOES NOTput software with their drives, despite what is on the box and then he started giving instructions on how to download open source DVD player VLC player and said it runs blu-ray disks - and I told I did this already when I had an OEM blu-ray drive. LG makes nice products but the support is not there and LG puts out false advertising on the boxes of their products - will never buy from this manufacturer again.

If I could give a negative number I would

McAfee Internet Security 2013 - 1 PC (Product Key Card)
McAfee Internet Security 2013 - 1 PC (Product Key Card)

Pros: It looks nice

Cons: Would not allow me to activate the software. Horrible Tech support.

Overall Review: I bought the three PC license for Mcafee - installed great on XP and installation hassle on Win 7. Since the Win 7 install was on an existing install, I thought this was just an existing issue. So I bought a new license for a new install of Win 7 - same problem but this time, the software did not want to activate itself or take user info for activation. I'm glad I was able to work out a deal with NewEgg to resolve getting this dud of a software. Save yourself the hassle and don't even think about putting this in your shopping cart.

Great Product but horrible registration process

McAfee Internet Security 2013 - 3 PCs
McAfee Internet Security 2013 - 3 PCs

Pros: A very good real-time scanner - a solid AV product, when it works.

Cons: The installation of this product on Windows 7 is torture. McAfee's Help Desk has a surprising lack of knowledge about the software, except the usual "uninstall and reinstall" methodology. The McAfee browser plug-in points my browser to use Yahoo as a search engine.

Overall Review: I bought this software because I was impressed by how well it worked at my job in detecting and deleting viruses and malware, sometimes beating Malwarebytes to the punch on detection. Installed very well on my Win XP PC, then tried to install it on Win 7 - oh boy. On my Win 7 laptop, McAfee refused to accept that my license was valid and it took numerous reinstalls (including the by DLC) and then more than a month for the online registration system to forget that I installed it on my Win 7 laptop, so I can again reinstall it and get it working. At first, I thought I did something wrong, so I decided to buy a copy of McAfee for 1 PC and put it on a fresh install of Windows 7 - Here We Go Again.

NOT Happy with Rebate

ASUS GeForce GT 610 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Graphics Card GT610-2GD3-CSM
ASUS GeForce GT 610 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Graphics Card GT610-2GD3-CSM

Pros: Card is the right type and price I need for my new Media PC - but it was the rebate that attracted me to it.

Cons: Put in for the Rebate, that is $10 off the card, valid until after June 31, 2013 and just found out that the rebate is an American Express gift card - what a rip-off !

Overall Review: Years ago, manufacturers sent you a check for the amount of the rebate, they offered for your purchase of their product and it was a done deal but now instead of cash, they give you a Gift Card that you are forced to use to make another purchase, hopefully for another of their product or something from the retailer offering it. I would not mind if ASUS was upfront on how the rebate was to be offered but what they did is they hid it, by having you download a PDF that had a link to a web site, where you had to put in that you had purchased their product already before they revealed that you were getting a "gift card" for the purchase of their product. Had ASUS been upfront about the "Gift Card" rebate - I would have skipped this product - now I am going to skip buying ASUS products all together, as they have lost my trust in being a reliable and trustworthy computer parts supplier.

AGP slows down PC - don't upgrade.

PowerColor Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Graphics Card HD2600XT 512M AGP
PowerColor Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Graphics Card HD2600XT 512M AGP

Pros: Definite improvement over GeForce 5200 card - sharper graphics, better color, and improved performance, when I start up Windows and see my Desktop.

Cons: Problematic installation on NForce2 Asus mobo using XP sp3, which resulted in either overall reduced system performance or system freeze at boot-up; I got my system up an running now but my Athlon XP 3000 = 2.16GHz is now at 1.95GHz and at undetermined stability. After reading all the blogs on my problem - no doubt that all AGP ATI chipset cards have a problem with Win XP sp3.

Overall Review: You would think upgrading a video card would be almost hassle-free but it wasn't - it sucked. At least, Nvidia isn't lying when they do not support AGP anymore - ATI/AMD's support for AGP is rubbish because they put out drivers that are not Windows certified and degrade system performance specs if you use a certain Windows upgrade patch (like SP3). I have not tried to test this card on any games yet but I wll eventually and I am afraid of the results. If you still want to use any AGP ATI Radeon card on a Asus A7N8X card, using Win XP sp3 - you need to set the BIOS CPU Ext. setting to 150MHz., not 166. I will still try to play around with my system and see if I can squeeze anymore out of her with this card but if you want to still keep your system running at top speed, until you can afford a more up to date system - Save your money just keep your old AGP card.
