Good hardware Value, but Lousy support...!8/12/2011 8:56:13 PM

Pros: On paper this looks like a good hardware value, until you need software support....

Cons: Outsourced tech support is very nice/polite, unable to answer the simplest questions, and give BAD information like they know what they are talking about (Not!)/ corrupted my system. USA M-F based support Slow to answer "polite" voice mail requests (2-5 days), or not at all! :o( Driver Reinstall CD is out-of-date, with many driver/program options that have no details?- clueless tech support had me install "all" of them "at once" (chipset too). -One Resource Hog program that made hidden/mirror images of every program/file on my computer (like a faux Raid). -Another was a Huge Resource Hog like Windows Desktop (I like freeware Search Everything/hidden files too), that redundantly dupe indexed everything (no better than the Start Searchbox).

Overall Review: Win 7 Pro OEM CD was useless, but able to use the key code with a full CD copy from another computer.

Faster than SSD for normal computing, and...8/2/2011 11:14:27 AM

Pros: After I "upgraded" to the Raptor sata6, and Consolidate defraged with Auslogics Free...- My computing is Much faster!

Cons: No 3 1/2" desktop cradle, and no Newegg prompt to add to purchase...! For this price, they should include one!

Overall Review: CCleaner has a default option set called "Wipe Free Space", that ruins a SSD drive (too many writes). It takes "hours" to complete on the Raptor, with No performance improvement- "The wipe free space option creates a Huge file that takes up all your space, then it deletes this huge file, in turn overwriting all deleted information so it is, in theory, unrecoverable. It can take a substantial amount of time".

Samsung HD502HJ HD, has a low hum!1/31/2011 10:28:48 AM

Pros: Low price. As slave HD- Transfers data faster than my old LOUD 32mb WD 640gig.

Cons: It has a "low" pulsing hum (1sec)- that is VERY Irritating to me! If you read enough user reviews- others also mention this Samsung HD hum!

Overall Review: I HAPPILY use a single WD Raptor 10k rpm HD for my C: System drive (WOW!- FAST!)- Blows a single 7200rpm drive out-of-the-water! I just do normal computing, and don't want to mess with RAID! I'm buying a new custom ZT Affinity core i7-2600 desktop, and hope the WD HD's are Silent!?

WOW!- SB6120 on a Docis 2.0 ISP!?7/22/2010 7:44:38 PM

Pros: My Bresnan ISP advertises 8mbps download, and 400kbps upload on a Docis 2.0 system. MUCH faster since upgrading from Docis 1.0! I Was renting a Ubee Docis 2.0 modem, and it was doing a BLAZING 81Mbps down, and 365kbps up. WOW!- I "Upgraded" to the SB6120? Speeds jumped to 131Mbps down, and 395kbps up! This is with my Antivir AV active! HUGE files download in less than 10sec! #s are Not typos, and all 3 test averages (from 100mi away)!

Cons: Minor- had to power off 15sec, after Mac ID entered before IE8 would recognize it. Couple of minutes before all lights came on/solid. Not All ISP's will support this modem~!- Call them before buying!?

Overall Review: Hmmm?- I like owning my own Modem, and it will "only" take 3ys of "no rental fees" to pay for the 6120 (sure glad it's faster!). I bought Newegg's 2yr extended replacement warranty (3yr total)?- This is a fairly New model with No track longevity record?

Kingston ram would not work on Sony Vaio9/23/2009 10:55:10 AM

Pros: Price

Cons: DOA?-My Sony Vaio would not recognize this ram, and I couldn't even get to F2 (bios info) Now I will see how Newegg Returns does?

Overall Review: UPS NOTE!-delivery was on time, as usual!-I have a signature on file with them- so left on porch(low crime neighbourhood!

Noisy wheel Ratcheting is VERY annoying!2/17/2009 10:51:27 AM

Pros: Soft easy click, unlike the Logitech...

Cons: Wheel is NOT smooth/ratcheting , and makes an audible clicking noise that is VERY annoying to me! Does not fit well in your hand.

Overall Review: I'm back to the inexpensive/smooth..., Microsoft K81 Blue

ADATA RB19, is only 15gb/no S/N2/9/2009 11:01:57 PM

Pros: Installed fine on my XP SP3.

Cons: 1. When you click on Properties= There is 8kb of operating..., and only 15 gig of storage/ NOT 16 gig! 2. I Go to register online (lifetime warranty/downloads), and they want the S/N?- There is a BLANK label to the right of the barcode, and I could not register!

Overall Review: I hope Newegg makes good on this!

Uniblue found errors that others missed!3/7/2008 9:24:32 PM

Pros: I had uninstalled a CD/DVD writing program, and was unable to reinstall a different one. I ran a battery of top rated registry cleaners (5)- to no avail? Uniblue found/corrected... the error, and saved me from an XP reformat!

Cons: It doesn't do a thorough enough cleanup on uninstalled programs! Freeware CCleaner, and Eusing find MANY more leftovers!

Overall Review: I have NEVER had good results with ANY registry defrag/compact program!- System ALWAYS ran MUCH slower afterwords! I always fresh reboot prior to & following EVERY registry scan (wait 2min to run a scan)! Running any two in a row caused me problems!

Corsair Value Select failed!- Better...!3/7/2008 8:58:31 PM

Pros: I can't think of any Pro's for Corsair! I recommend that you GET CRUCIAL! I bought a new DELL D830 laptop, and wanted to max out on memory (4gig). I ordered it with 512mb, as DELL's memory upgrade prices are VERY HIGH! Using the Newegg memory configurator- The only memory listed was Corsair Value Select? I have always been a fan of Crucial, but none listed (I finally found a deal on Newegg Crucial for DELL's/Macs- CT25664AC667 !)?

Cons: Corsair only lasted 20 days (BSOD)! I'm sure glad I didn't send in for the $15 rebate, or I'd have been stuck with it! The Crucial memory that I replaced it with scored 200 points higher on my memory performance test, and malware scans... ran 20% faster with Crucial!

Overall Review: In order to reap the benefits of "Dual Channel" memory (64% faster than single channel!)- You HAVE to have the EXACT same memory modules in both A/B... slots (don't mix...!)! Vista & XP LOVE 4gigs!!! Dual channel memory is much like the benefits of a dual core cpu!- two data streams to cpu at once! I then ran freeware CPU-Z - to verify that dual channel was working properly.

Diskeeper PP w IFAAST= 20-80%...+!11/9/2007 10:31:31 AM

Pros: I am a software tech- 1. I "free trialed" them all..., and DK PP w IFAAST "WON/BIG"!- Arranges the pgms u use the most at front of HD, and seldom used at back= FAST access/quieter (WD Raptor System HD)), made a BIG performance boost over competition (actual= 20-80%...!)! 2. Defrag is FAST!- You set the speed... 3. Can also Defrag HD/Registry, at boot-up!

Cons: 1. A little tricky to set up, and get FULL potential. 2. When setting up reserved MFT (registry) size- DO NOT use their "recommendation/HUGE/slow" size!- Go 20k more than current use- You can add more later, but have to reformat to subtract! 3. Their constant defrag...- In the middle of installs/uninstalls/computing...- corrupted MANY of my pgms!

Overall Review: Per DK documentation- 1. Disable constant defrag..., and "Schedule" (BETTER than Manual!)", every ...hrs (I use 24). 2. U have to schedule IFAAST daily for a week (I do- end of day), before you will see BIG performance gains! Keeps track of "actual" use- not just "last modified" (as with others...). ENJOY! :o)

Intel Core 2 Duo didn't work in my DELL XPS400/9150!6/30/2007 2:54:15 PM

Pros: I am a software tech- None, didn't even boot up- NADA!

Cons: Intel specs say that the C2D supports the 945p chipset. My A07 bios supports the c2d. Some Gold Tech support said "may" work? Wouldn't even boot! RMA'd!

Overall Review: Want to upgrade?- 1. 4 gig (maxed) of "Crucial Ballistx CAS3 667mhz memory, boosted some HD performance 8X! (read my full review!) 2. C2D tests say 40% faster... 2.4ghz C2D is about equal (3.36) , to my 3.2ghz Pentiun D Dual Core. I'll try a 3.6ghz Pentium D, if/when the prices come down!

4 gig of Crucial Ballistx memory, was GOOD in mt DELL XPS 400/9150...!6/30/2007 2:27:17 PM

Pros: I am a computer tech- 2 gig of this 667, was not much better than the original 2 gig of DELL 533mhz (PassMark total performance test, +5% )! Decided to try 2 gig more (4 gig total)? NOW GO FIGURE!?- WOW!- My Symantec total PassMark rating went from 412.1 (2 gig), TO 900.9 (4gig) OVER 2.5X faster! -Their Diskmark rating went from 348.8 to 2797.1- OVER 8X faster! HUH!? - Emsa benchmark test went from 840 to only 920 (+8%). In normal use, I didn't notice that much improvement (about what the Emsa test said)? THEN!- -"Cleanup" disk files utility (EXCELLENT!- freeware), took only 1 second (about 8x faster!)! -Restart & defrag (EXCELLENT!- Diskeeper Pro Premier 10! defragment/optomizer!- ), only took 2 seconds (about 8x again!)! -Then I decided to do an Acronis 9.0 (EXCELLENT!), full system image backup. Acronis backup to WD 3mb, sata slave HD- Wrote 5.9 gig in ONLY 60 sec! My theory is that HD "Page File usage went from to 0?!

Cons: Expensive, but cheaper than a new computer, that will SURELY be outdated in a few months...!

Overall Review: DELL computers are memory "picky", because you CAN'T tweak the settings! Other memory brands didn't work!- Crucial uses the same Micron chips/voltages as DELL OEM! BOTTOM LINE!- I'd forget the C2D cpu... (it's already C4...!), and get 4 gig of this Crucial Ballistx 667mhz memory!

Toshiba HDD2D08 MK1032GAX Failed!5/17/2007 10:35:42 AM

Pros: Great while it lasted!

Cons: Ran a little hot. Just out of warranty, and ALL the data disappeared!? Would not reformat...!

Overall Review: I'll try a Newegg Seagate with a MUCH better warranty, this time!

HP Deskjet 6980 didn't last long!5/3/2007 11:22:32 PM

Pros: Good while it lasted! Small ink cartridge lasted well.

Cons: Less than half of my original ink cartridge (about 200 sheets), and it quit powering up (I leave it off, when not in use too!)?! It started acting balky..., about a week ago. Power supply is warm, and plugged properly? Hardly used! BAH HUMBUG!

Overall Review: I'll try the HP 6940 next, and hope it lasts better?

ASUS motherboard support HORRIBLE!3/10/2007 11:06:03 AM

Pros: Fair (stock settings), if you can get the "confusing" settings figured out...? Manuals aren't much help.

Cons: Used ASUS approved memory/settings..., but couldnt get it to auto-overclock even 10%! ASUS web site support is mostly down/SLOW (a common forum complaint!), and when it is up- the downloads... take FOREVER (4mb takes 30min (at 2am), and I have FAST 8000kbps internet!)), or you get the "too busy, try later...! Most commonly site is just DOWN! See for yourself!- Go to their support website & try test downloading of ANY large file (any users manual...)

Overall Review: I don't know what to say?!- I am disappointed in ASUS, but after reading the negative reviews on other mfg mbos... I feel ASUS "probably?" makes the best mbos, IF you can live with their AWFUL SUPPORT!?

SpywareDoctor is the best, but...2/22/2007 11:01:40 AM

Pros: I am a home software tech that specializes in computer security. In best independent review- SWD is #1. Interface is a little difficult to figure out & must be manually set- schedule scan, On Guard, auto-updates, Immunize Computer/Immunize Now... If you want to see a pop-up- just click again (if they warn you about a web site...- don't go there!)

Cons: 1. The several levels of SWD protection take about 1min 30sec to load (taskbar icon) on my FAST computer (do your email/safe..., while waiting/no web surfing...!)- #1 protection, is worth it though!

Overall Review: If you are REALLY concerned about #1 protection from malware...- Get NOD32 anti-virus (#1, fast! Forum/Google for strange setup.), and a 2-way firewall... (I have 5 levels of internet protection!).

NOD32 (winner) vs "others"1/29/2007 9:47:40 AM

Pros: I am a home software tech, and got tired of waiting for "others" AV to load/run (1min 30sec., on my 3.2ghz computer.)/ Resource HOGS! 1. NOD32 is #1 on my favorite independent AV test! 2. Fast loading & running- Has 5 "smaller" separate modules to handle different areas- Instead of one HUGE/SLOW resource hog-like "others". 3. Advanced Heirusetics/Zero-day...- detects "virus like" behavior, "before" there is a definition. 4. Auto-updates several times daily (keeps you VERY current!). Doesn't take weekends/holidays off, like "others". Weekends/holidays are when many hackers..., like to strike! 5. In-depth analysis (DEEP scan), found a "pesky...!" email virus that "others" missed!

Cons: 1. VERY confusing!- Took me 3 days to "fully" figure configure it. (Google is your friend)- (save profiles..., per help!). I did "free trial". 2. Old AV "MUST" be FULLY removed! Simple Add/Remove, usually doesn't usually work on AV software (Google remove deeply!)! 3. High price (you get what you pay for- the best protection!). If you get a virus using el-cheapos...- The few extra bucks will be worth it! 4. Email/only support took 10 days to "thoroughly" answer a question. "others" outsourced email support was faster, but "NEVER" got it right...!

Overall Review: Give it a try if you are pretty techy- BE patient!

BUG FIX"S"!2/19/2006 12:54:06 PM

Pros: 3rd Envision LCD- Good resolution, very sharp! BUY THIS!

Cons: 1. "No Signal" bug, fix. 2. Installs at ONLY 60 hertz (hard on eyes), fix. 3. Too bright, fix.

Overall Review: I am a software tech. EXCELLENT, once I got "Cons/bugs" fixed- 1. "No Signal" Bug fix. XP auto driver & downloaded Envision drivers were bad! Forced driver install from Device Manager/Specific location..., on CD that came with monitor! Works good/"No Signal" gone! 2. SLOW 60 hertz fix- Control Panel, Display, Settings, Advanced, Monitor- set to 75 hertz... 3. Too bright- a. SELECT/AUTO (this partially auto adjusts...). b. MENU, up/down arrows to brightness/contrast, menu, arrows to 32 brightness & 80 contrast (or to your taste). Not too easy!- Play with it!

Works good, but only 5% O'Clock!1/31/2006 8:54:51 PM

Pros: Works good on my P4P800-e MBO, except for O'Clocking!

Cons: Would only O'Clock 5%!?

Overall Review: I am a software tech. I wanted to O'Clock my P4 2.8Ghz cpu. Built this with an Antec case & 350 PSU, 2 120mm fans on high, Vantec CPU cooler on highest setting, all drivers & bios updated... Would only O'Clock 5%, on their automatic setting? If u want to O'Clock- I would try the Corsair VS memory, that another reviewer had better luck with!

Overclocking is not just for gamers!1/31/2006 8:34:59 PM

Pros: fairly easy to install & update bios. Overclocking settings are easy!

Cons: Was only able to o'clock 5%? Otherwise I like it.

Overall Review: I am a software tech, and have built "several" computers. I wanted to build a computer to overclock my P4 2.8ghz cpu. I did everything by the book. Went to ASUS site & bought 1gb of the recommended Transcend memory, Antec case & PSU & 2 120mm fans on high setting, Vantec CPU cooler on highest setting... Got done & was only able to o'clock 5%??? Risk was NOT worth the gamble & went back to the "Standard" CPU setting. Don't know what the problem is, but I suspect the Transcend memory!? I'd try the Corsair VS Memory, that another reviewer had good luck with! Also don't use the "ungrounded" front USB slots! BACK ones ONLY!

READ THIS!, before installing!...1/23/2006 8:44:24 PM

Pros: Pros: This works GOOD! 1. Install with Startup Group Items disabled (especially AntiSpyware...!). Right click on icons next to clock or- I use Start, Run, "msconfig", ... 2. Acronis login is "WAY" to the right, on their web page. 3. HD letters show up in a different order. BROWSE! (c drive = Disk 1), expand "+My Computer...". 4. Do not defragment your compressed .tib backup file! Other Thoughts: I am a software tech. I WAS using Norton Ghost, but kept having problems with their system restore bombing...! I needed a "full Image/System" backup, that is dependable, for me and my clients! Acronis True Image 9.0 is it! I read MANY reviews on 9.0. The reviews were love/hate? Users commonly blame problems... on the computer/software/hardware..., but 99.9% of the time it is "user error...!"! The most common error, is that some other running program conflicts (especially AntiSpyware!). Things I was able to do while thoroughly testing 9.0

Cons: Cons: Somewhat difficult to figure out. On restore, HD letters are "drastically" changed around- Name your .tib backup file something meaningful like laptopE1.tib ("E", being the drive it was originally stored on). On boot restore- Fast click the TOP option. Restore from XP running PGM, is MUCH better!

Overall Review: Try the Acronis web site "free trial download", first.

Faster than 24x CD/RW, and...1/23/2006 8:22:01 PM

Pros: I am a software tech- Backups are faster, more dependable/manageable than 24x CD/RW. Nearly as fast as my 7200 rpm slave HD. Do your backups, and turn it off in case you are infected with a virus... Works great with my Acronis 9.0 System Image software. Never gets hot. XP system installs drivers, & recognizes- Forget their WD software. Needs to be reformated from FAT32 to NTFS, for XP/more partitions- Right click om My Computer, manage, Disk management..., RESTART.

Cons: None

Overall Review: I'm sooo tired of my CD backups, becoming unreadealbe! This is the "Cat's Meow"!

I suspect the only problems are "user error"!1/10/2006 9:31:41 PM

The most common error, is that some other running program conflicts (especially AntiSpyware!). Things I was able to do while thoroughly testing 9.0 on 2 desktops & one laptop, with NO problems! 1. Backup/Restore from a different partition, on the primary Hard Drive (the best results!). 2. Backup/Restore from a different partition on my slave HD. 3. Backup/Restore from my new Western Digital USB 2.0, 120Gb, 7,200 rpm external HD (WOW!, it does faster backups... than CD, and rivals my 7,200 rpm slave HD's!).

Faster backups than 24x CD/RW!1/10/2006 9:00:24 PM

Pros: 1.1 USB was SLOW! Installed 2.0 USB card, and blazing FAST! This is much faster, and more dependable, than backing up to 24x CD/RW. This even rivals my 7,200rpm slave drives for speed. Forget their WD software- XP installs everything u need, for normal operation.

Cons: Minor- Rubber feet stick to table, and fall off.

Overall Review: Another thing I like about this is- You can do your backups & then turn it off. If you later get infected by a virus..., the backups are not affected.

Hyper Threading is HYPE!11/17/2005 9:36:57 PM

Comments: I am a software tech. This is a good processor & fast BUT! For normal computing Hyper Threading (name sure sounds GOOD!) is MUCH slower on, than off, and my computer is loaded with "full time protection software..."! With it off, downloads..., and multiple programs are MUCH faster!
