MSI Laptop Intel Core i7-3630QM 8GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M 15.6" Windows 8 Multi-language GE60 0ND-654MX
MSI Laptop Intel Core i7-3630QM 8GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M 15.6" Windows 8 Multi-language GE60 0ND-654MX

Pros: See my previous review. I just wanted to add a couple more thoughts here for those curious about MSI.

Cons: See above.

Overall Review: BUYER BEWARE. I returned this laptop. It was a terrible buy. There is no reason a 7200RPM harddrive should take 15 seconds to boot out of standby. Contrary to the response to my first review from the manufacturer (who evidently doesn't understand much about computers), that is NOT normal. The laptop just is poorly built and unresponsive. I don't think it was a defect in my particular product either, given the reviews that surfaced online from others who purchased this laptop at the same time I did. I ended up sticking with a Lenovo Y510p with SLI graphics. It boots instantly out of standby despite only having a 5400RPM HDD. It's significantly more responsive, and the CPU isn't constantly pushing for 100%. Definitely staying away from MSI for all future purchases.

Not impressed.

Pros: sleek look, great resolution

Cons: Slow boot time, takes 10-15 seconds to boot from standby, has frozen a few times despite no software yet installed, no backlit keyboard (of course I knew this upon ordering, but still is important to mention), a few unresponsive buttons above the keyboard. The touchpad sucks. Left clicking feels like a thumb workout. Windows key is on the right side of the keyboard which is awkward. The AC Adapter on the charger is HUGE. I've never seen such a big adapter on a laptop charger.

Overall Review: I'm exchanging it for another one, just because I'm thinking that the hiccups I'm having are specific to this particular machine. If the next one I receive has the same issues, I'm returning it. Overall, it's good value for $750, but if I'm buying a new laptop, I expect it to perform how a new laptop should.

A decent buy, despite the gcard.

Lenovo Laptop IdeaPad Intel Core i5-3210M 6GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M LE 14.0" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit Y480 (2093XB2)
Lenovo Laptop IdeaPad Intel Core i5-3210M 6GB Memory 750GB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M LE 14.0" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit Y480 (2093XB2)

Pros: Has a decently sturdy build. Looks brand new despite being refurbished. Very nice keyboard, and it is Backlit. Speakers are decent. Nothing to call home about, but are adequate. If you are listening to good music, you are doing it through headphones anyways. Hard drive is spacious, good RAM.

Cons: Only 3 real cons here. The Graphics card, as everyone mentioned, is NOT the 650M that is in the description. However it seems to be running better than a typical stock 640M LE. So I'm really not sure what gcard is in this laptop, but it's performing well. The battery life is pretty short. About an hour and a half to 2 hours. The hibernation procedure is pretty stupid. It happened to me while I was watching a movie. It takes about 2 minutes to fully shut off. In that time, the screen blacked out, but the movie kept playing and I could hear it until the laptop powered off. I also plugged the charger back in, but it didn't cancel the hibernate or bring the screen back. Minor cons are that the right "shift" button is pretty small, and the functions, including volume and brightness buttons, all require using the "fn" key, which might bother some people.

Overall Review: I feel bad for dragging a lot of people into buying this laptop, because I posted it to slickdeals when I found it. However, I will say that I did receive compensation for this purchase. It took a lot of fighting, but I eventually was able to speak with a manager's manager who offered me compensation for my troubles with their customer service, as well as receiving a product that wasn't the one that was stated in the description. I don't know if I will order anything big from newegg again, but I will say that after a lot of hassle, they eventually were willing to make things right with me. As a last note, I probably wouldn't buy this laptop again without the compensation I received from customer service. It's worth the $560, but you can definitely find better deals out there.
