Works with IPCop
Pros: works great
Cons: none
Overall Review: Got several NICs for the IPCop Linux firewall distribition, Rosewill RC-402 10/100Mbps, Edimax EN9230TX 10/100/1000/2000, Rosewill RC-400-LX 10/ 100/ 1000. All of these cards were detected and have done great. All Realtek chipsets.
DIR-655
Pros: Was on sale for a budget router for a customer. I had to go online to get a real answer about the difference of "virtual server" or "port forwarding" as the manual was vague. Turns out the virtual server part does address a limitation of consumer routers of late.
Cons: This may be a good router for most but I got a dud I suppose. Have to return it.
Overall Review: As consumer routers go seems to get reliablilty need to go toward the $200 range anymore to get reliability. Have bounced around several different brands in the past year and not really satisfied with any of these $50 - $100 range routers that used to be fine for simple consumer needs.
best device for antenna TV
Pros: Easy to setup and configure, can runs for weeks, maybe months without issue.
Cons: had the first crash after 3 months the other day, not really a con as all electronics crash sometimes
Overall Review: Used this on Windows Media Center to start out, worked great. Then went to the more sophisticated MythTV, again worked great. Is well supported in about any PC DVR/PVR software. I think its the best way to get antenna TV to the PC for DVR functionality. Be sure to setup your router to maintain the same IP address for this device, makes for less troubleshooting if the electricity blinks out.
low power and fast drive
Pros: Picked this drive because of the very high ratings for my first SSD in a new PC build, the cost to capacity ratio is pretty good these days. This build required highly efficient low power components in a very small factor Intel Haswell Core i3 HTPC. Ubuntu "Saucy" boots in 15 seconds. Setup a daily cron job for fstrim (Linux TRIM), then run from Terminal sometimes as well to be sure. Amazing performance, is nice to NOT hear that chattering spinning platters disk drive.
Cons: no cons
Overall Review: I would highly recommend this drive from my limited experience with SSD, so far so good. Very pleased so far, the performance of MythTV and XBMC is great with this drive being a big factor along with the other components including a hybrid 2TB eSATA drive for external storage for movies and recordings. This is the smallest and fastest PC build to date!
nice HDD enclosure
Pros: Using this for external storage for a low power and very small form factor HTPC, looks nice and like the design for an always running 2TB hybrid drive. Very quiet and have the peace of mind the drive will stay as cool as possible.
Cons: No cons, just wish all these enclosure manufacturers were better detailed about max HDD capacity. Just the facts about the device limitations, not the operating system its attached to.
Overall Review: Have used different brand enclosures before with success, picked this one because it has a fan to keep an always running drive cool. Am no interior designer but I like how its looks in my home theater area.
HDMI to component video
Pros: Using this on a Dish Network VIP 722 DVR HDMI connection to an HD Slingbox, Can now use the HD PVR on the VIP 722 component and digital audio connections. No device passthroughs anymore.
Cons: no cons
Overall Review: Solved an issue of the HD PVR having to always be on to use the Slingbox, are now separate. Also eliminated a need to split audio connections as HDMI provides audio as well.
