Seasonic PRIME PX-1000, 1000W 80+ Platinum, Full Modular, Fan Control in Fanless, Silent, and Cooling Mode, 12 Year Warranty, Perfect Power Supply for Gaming and High-Performance Systems, SSR-1000PD.

Pros: Nice that it came with an additional 8 pin CPU power cable (why I bought it). Active or "passive" cooling when placing the fan up towards the interior of the case.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: This is more of a note, and might be obvious to some people. I think there either needs to be a standard for modular power supplies, or a modification to that modularity, where cables from one manufacturer can't be plugged into another manufacturer's power supply. I spent a few hours troubleshooting why the computer wouldn't turn on only to find that one of my Corsair cable had gotten mixed in with the Seasonic cables. It plugged in as if it were meant to, but the power supplies built-in protection kept the power supply from turning on. (Which should also be in the pros....) I removed that cable and put in the Seasonic model and it worked like a charm (I should also say that it wasn't a faulty cable because it works fine with it's proper power supply.)

Most Critical Review

Nice motherboard that addresses common issues with X299

ASRock X299 TAICHI XE LGA 2066 Intel X299 USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock X299 TAICHI XE LGA 2066 Intel X299 USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Lots of expandability. Last chipset/processor series with Windows 7 compatibility and update support! Quality construction, somewhat decent BIOS options/driver support. Good overclocking options. Took some getting used to compared to other manufacturers BIOSes. 3 M.2, 10 Sata ports (see below for additional complaint for this in the other comments)

Cons: F11 Boot selection in BIOS does not work, screen comes up with options of what device to boot, but you can't select any of them, the only two buttons that work on screen are "Enter BIOS", and "Boot Default" Additionally when moving the mouse in this screen and sometimes in the main BIOS, the screen pixelates, as if there is some video interface issue. I don't know if this is because of the video card, I am waiting for another to check if it is my video card at fault for this issue. Motherboard RGB software doesn't interface with G.Skill RGB memory like some other manufacturers software will.

Overall Review: Using the M.2's disables some of the SATA ports. I know they have to maintain some compatibility for CPUs that have fewer PCI-E lanes, but having the option to configure simultaneous use of M.2 and data ports when you have a 44 lane CPU, and only 1 GPU would be nice. Where in the world can you get a VROC chip? Why would you not make more Thunderbolt AIC Cards, nearly impossible to find. Put one on the back like the M-ITX board you offer!

Nice memory that operates with X299 and Z270 equally well.

G.SKILL Sniper X Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C19D-32GSXK

Pros: Highly compatible. Looks pretty good NO RGB for once. New Egg's awesome customer service!

Cons: Hard to get, split up my orders for cost reasons, and when I ordered the second set FEDEX lost the package.

Overall Review: New Egg worked with me due to the lost package to refund the money. I hope they go after Fedex because there is something fishy going on there (TL,DR: Delivery Exception (no one home=lie; additionally no signature required, why not leave it?) Then next day delivered? With signature that does not belong to anyone in household?) I can't speak well enough of the customer service New Egg provides! Not only did they refund my other purchase, they let me return this memory kit because I couldn't get a 2nd 32GB kit due to availability. I wish I could get a second kit, this memory is great.

10c/20t and HOT!

Intel Core i9 X-Series - Core i9-7900X Skylake-X 10-Core 3.3 GHz LGA 2066 140W BX80673I97900X Desktop Processor
Intel Core i9 X-Series - Core i9-7900X Skylake-X 10-Core 3.3 GHz LGA 2066 140W BX80673I97900X Desktop Processor

Pros: Can go 1+Ghz over stock clock speeds. I have it stable at 4.5. Great for Blender, compiling code, and running multiple VMs.

Cons: To get those overclocks you must go with a custom loop. Price. HOT.

Overall Review: Currently running more tests. I'm a self learning computer guy, trying to figure out how to maximize using a computer like this. It was more of an impulse/want kind of thing. I used to use the competing processors years ago, but I couldn't bring myself to go that route, there were too many questions for me, so I stuck with what I know for now. It would be nice if Intel could put out more documentation for those wishing to squeeze power out of these, they are "extreme" for lack of a better word, and guidelines for the different terminologies and voltage settings would be great. I know they have some documentation, but something between layman and nuclear physicist would be awesome.

Nice option for cooling 7700k!

CORSAIR Hydro Series H105 Extreme Performance 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler, CW-9060016-WW
CORSAIR Hydro Series H105 Extreme Performance 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler, CW-9060016-WW

Pros: Decent cooling capabilities. Used originally for a 7900x, but I found that that processor has unique cooling needs, and I ultimately went to a custom loop. It works great on my 7700k.

Cons: I did not like that a corsair cooler did not fit properly in a corsair case. That is more my fault than anything for making assumptions. I wanted to install it in a Obsidian 450D with an AsRock X299 Taichi XE, the cooler would not clear the VRM heatsink on this board in that case. -The copper on the cpu mount is easily marred, even with careful placement, after switching one motherboard, it had some ding like marks towards where the edge of the processor would be.

Overall Review: A great cooler for stock to semi overclocked processors, for 5+Ghz, I would look for a cooler with more surface area (like a 360, or 280...).

Great board!

ASRock Z87 PRO3 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock Z87 PRO3 LGA 1150 Intel Z87 HDMI USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Easy install, plenty of expansion options. BIOS is like nothing I have seen- too many options for a guy that last built a pentium 4 system. Some study time will be needed before any overclocking takes place for me.

Cons: See the pros, the bios was a little complex for me, but I don't really see it as a con...
