Work In Progress Update

AVerMedia AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress MTVHBNOER ExpressCard / 54mm Interface
AVerMedia AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress MTVHBNOER ExpressCard / 54mm Interface

Pros: Outstanding customer service.

Cons: None now!

Overall Review: Got sound after re-installing drivers and using beta s/w provided by AverMedia. Can't say enough good about their Tech Support, teh Product Line Manager got involved and spent over an hour with me on the phone. You have to expect some bugs with h/w this new as well as developing the s/w to operate it. HD TV on a laptop is quite a technical accomplishment and this company is to be commended for having the tech support staff to back up such a sophisticated piece of h/w.

Work In Progress

AVerMedia AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress MTVHBNOER ExpressCard / 54mm Interface
AVerMedia AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress MTVHBNOER ExpressCard / 54mm Interface

Pros: Pulls in distant Digital TV signals, beautiful display, no overhang from ExpressCard slot, minimal bloat with AverTV application.

Cons: Can get absolutely no sound out of the Digital TV section. Sound is fine in radio and analog TV section. I've tried this with XP, XP Media Center Edition and Vista on a Dell Vostro 1500. Unlike most, I can get Vista to recognize the card but it won't work on the digital TV, just like XP. Have been working with AverMedia tech support so it'll be interesting to see if they can resolve this.

Overall Review: Ordinarily, I'd RMA'd this after a week of trying to get it functioning correctly but something tells me this is a good piece of hardware so I'm going to take a chance and hope that the AverMedia people can come up with a solution.

Good printer - horrendous software

HP LaserJet P1005 CB410A Personal Up to 15 ppm Monochrome Laser Printer
HP LaserJet P1005 CB410A Personal Up to 15 ppm Monochrome Laser Printer

Pros: Very cheap price, nice print quality.

Cons: Driver CD automatically installs MS .NET framework without given notice or option not to install it. The .NET framework should _not_ be required to simply install a driver for a printer. It hosed the Auto logon on 2 seperate machines. Comes with "starter" toner cartridge good for a small number of print jobs... can't remember the number right now.

Overall Review: First tech item I've not purchased via NewEgg in quite some time. Got this via Staples on basically the same deal but had a $50 coupon so the printer was free... which is the only reason it's still around. I haven't priced them yet but I've heard toner cartridges for this one are priced quite high.
