I want to buy two of these monitors and I need to buy an adapter to connect the second one to a USB port.  what connector do I need to get?

I'm not sure from the way you asked your question exactly what you mean.  You don't need any adapter at all to connect the USB ports on this monitor, all you need is USB A-B cable.  If you search NewEgg for "USB A-B Cable" you'll see the type of cable you need BUT ...

From the way you asked the question I'm wondering if you think you can connect the monitor to USB for video.  You CAN'T!!  The USB port connections on this monitor have nothing to do with video.  They're just USB hubs, you can connect the USB on the monitor to your computer and then you can use the other ports on the monitor like a USB hub to connect other things like mouse dongles, Bluetooth dongles, flash/thumb drives, etc.

To get video on the monitor you have to connect either DVI or VGA (sometimes called RGB) cables to the video head on your video card or motherboard.

If you don't have two video connectors on your computer you can't run two of these monitors without buying another video card or video device.  There is a video device that works off a USB connection but that is NOT built into this monitor and it costs about half what the monitor costs.

Even if you do have two video connectors be sure that they can both carry a video signal simultaneously (multi-monitor display) or you still won't be able to use the both of them.

The video connections on these monitors are the same as on any other monitor.  The USB connectors are just small USB hubs for convenience, they don't carry any video signal at all.

Question 2

Is the stand removable? If so, do you have a different stand closer to the desktop?  I'd like to connect this monitor to my laptop which is significantly lower.

You can take the monitor off the stand. I am not sure if they have a lower stand. I have it down on the lowest setting and hooked to a laptop, and it works well for me.
