I beleive it is there are 4 holes in the back that looks like it is for a mount plate but it doent come with one.

It has a VGA input on it, So yes you should be able to use it with older model computers. The operating system wouldn't matter in the case of the monitor.

This monitor is a VGA monitor.  I double-checked it and there are no HDMI ports on it.  I love the monitor, by the way, it works really well for me, and is so much better than the 17" Sony that I upgraded from.

NO, this monitor has no built-in speakers, or any kind of connectors for speakers.  It has an A/C port and a VGA port, and no other ports.

Two of these monitors will be used on windows lap tops and one on a mac laptop.  what cables do I need?

Depending on the Mac, you would need either a DisplayPort-to-VGA or Thunderbolt-to-VGA.  The specs for this monitor don't show a DVI interface, only a VGA/analog input.  For the Win based laptops, you would use the default VGA cable that comes with it.

I'm not sure what kind of plug you mean: VGA vs. HDMI, or are you referring to the A/C plug?  The A/C plug is a 3-prong cord, I don't know how better to refer to it than that.  As far as the data cable, it is VGA, not HDMI.  There are no HDMI ports on it.  I hope this helps.
