What does "500GB HDD Capacity" mean??

The data storage capacity of the computer's hard disk drive (HDD) is 500 gigabytes.  The HDD allows the processor to store and retrieve data.  After loading the operating system and other support software onto the HDD, the remaining capacity (just slightly less than 500GB) can be used to store other programs of your choosing and data such as photos and videos.  A 500GB HDD will store 1000's of photos and will serve the needs of most individuals.

Does this machine support dual monitors?

You'll need to add a graphics card that has two ports.  The onboard video is just the single 15-pin connector.  I installed a 1GB nvidia pcie card that has the 15-pin, DVI, and HDMI and am using two monitors.

I recently purchased this computer from Newegg and waiting for it to be shipped, if it hasn't been already.  What can I change/add, i.e., memory, power supply, and etc., to improve performance?  Thank you for your time in this matter.

Hi Robert,

I think the answer to this question would be based on what you are going to do with this PC. If you are going to use it just for email and surfing the internet you will be fine, if you are going to use it to edit videos etc I would say you can add updates. More RAM would not hurt, because it comes with 4 GB which is not bad but 8 would be better. Hope this helps. How do I get to the description of what this product is all about.  I'm assuming it comes with the keyboard and a mouse but no monitor?

The desktop PC does not come with a monitor, I bought an ACER monitor for my set up. And yes, the keyboard and mouse did come with it, but I purchased wireless attachments for the ease and convenience.

Does this come with Microsoft Office?

It comes with Office 365 which you pay for annually.
I put Office Home and Student in One Machine and Office Pro in the other as I wanted Outlook... You can use Office Home and Business as well if looking for outlook. I buy the download version through the Software King, good pricing and never have a problem. Myself I would order office 2010....to much griping going on about 2013

Does it have any USB3 ports?  Does is have a sound card?

There are no USB 3.0 ports. It has standard input and output sound connections that you can connect speakers to. The computer has a built in speaker that is only good for the general windows noises.

You can do dual monitors if you connect one monitor to the HDMI connection and one to the VGA connection.

I'm looking at buying two of these systems and want to fill in the empty 4G slot in both. There are quite a few choices, can somebody please advise which brand/model will be adequate to match with the existing stick?

I use crucial dot com as a good reference for what type to buy. you can select the model that you intend to buy and they tell you what RAM type you need. the optiplex 3010 is on there.

can a solid state drive be added to this system?

In short . Yes. But I had to buy a standard kit to mountit in the drive bay below the CDROM. Secondly there is also an area at the base of the tower along with the full size hard drive. Again  mount kit needed plus at this location you would need the Dell slide side rails. These are what actually hold drive down. 3 issue. I don't believe enuf power connection so would need data power Y.  And probably the longer style data data cable. Good luck!!
