For HDD upgrade or failure, will OS transfer?

Good Afternoon,

The answer is Both Yes and NO, depends on whether an upgrade will be to a functioning HDD,  to a functioning HDD or SSD.  A HDD failure is usually the death nell of your computer.  You can not transfer anything from a non-functioning HDD.  If this HDD is super meaningful to you, and you must have things off the HDD (photos files documents), there are several premium services that will take the HDD apart and spin the platters on a bench rig and retrieve the info you request.  This service is not cheap and does take some time.  This predisposes the HDD failed due to electronics and not a failure of the HDD media self destruction. If the HDD is functioning, you can clone the HDD to another HDD or SSD.  There are several good cloning software programs for this job.  These programs only clone the HDD.  they do not really move anything.  You will clone your new HDD from the old HDD,  and then take out the old one and replace into your computer the new HDD.
