Is the stand screen or widescreen?  I need standard square screen

It is not perfectly square since the resolution is 1280 x 1024.  But it is not considered a widescreen.  If you are looking for a "square" screen monitor this will be as close as you get!

Question 2

If the DVI-D cables are excluded from this purchase, how do I know which ones I will need to buy to go with the monitor?

It has one vga, one dvi, and four USB ports at the back panel of the monitor. So you could choose dvi-dvi, dvi-vga, vga-vga, or dvi-hdmi depend on the type of port on your computer. If memory reserves, the monitor comes along with vga-vga cable.

Question 3

The monitor height with stand is between 14.57" and 19.67", correct? I'm putting it on a desk under a cabinet so I need to make sure I have enough clearance.

I just measured it. I don't have the ability to measure to the nearest hundredth of an inch but mine is just a hair under 14 3/4 at its lowest and just a hair under 19 3/4 when fully extended.

Does this monitor have a DVI port/plug?

I don't know if it has that specifically, but I know it has one (possibly two) kind of connection beyond the more standard options of 9-pin serial and USB.  If that's the DVI you're asking about, I don't use it.

Question 5

i need a monitor that allows the screen to swivel 180 degree.  will this work?

Dell's P1914S manual only shows 90 degrees.
The manual can be downloaded from Dell's website.
