Dell EMC PowerEdge R740xd2 24x LFF, 2x Xeon Gold 6262V 1.9GHz 24-Core CPUs, 512GB 2666MHz Memory, PERC H730p, 12x 12TB 12Gbps SAS, iDRAC 9 Enterprise, Rails
The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740xd2 is a 2U rack server that offers massive internal storage capacity and great build quality. It is designed to deliver maximum storage capacity and is ideal for storage-centric workloads such as video surveillance, big Exchange mailboxes, media streaming, and software-defined storage. The server can accommodate up to 26 hot swappable LFF hard disks and supports dual Xeon Scalable CPUs with up to 22 cores. The memory capacity of this server is lower compared to the R740xd, with support for up to 512GB of RAM.
The Dell EMC PowerEdge R740xd2 has a clever internal design that consists of two stacked drive trays, each with 12 LFF hot-swap bays. This design is what allows the server to achieve such enormous storage potential. The trays are easily accessible from a rack cabinet without bringing the server down, thanks to the plastic chain-style guards that protect the power and interface cables. However, its recommended not to leave the trays fully exposed for more than five minutes due to cooling requirements.
In terms of expansion, cooling, and power, the server comes with standard dual embedded Gigabit ports along with a dual Gigabit SFP LOM mezzanine card. There are also other network options available, including dual-port 10GbE and 25GbE LOMs and a range of standard PCI-e adapters.
