Is this battery only compatible with Dell products or can it be used for any laptop?

well, it well work with any lap top IF it has the same size plug AND uses the same voltage. most laptops do run on 19-20 volts - the dell plug is a large one - HP uses it, and some others. If it were me, i would have no problem modifying the cord and put the correct plug on it - then it comes down to the voltage being right - and your chances are good there = but if they are off by a bit, you could kill your laptop
