does this device have installed speakers or it is necessary to buy them separately?

This monitor does not have internal speakers, so you will have to purchase separate speakers, which isn't really a negative, because even if it did include internal speakers, they would be far from high quality. The monitor does have a 3.5mm audio out jack so, if you plug a game console into it, for example, you can rout the audio to an external solution.

With the stock base can this monitor be turned and used vertically?

It is a fixed base that only allows the screen to be tilted up and down a few degrees.

I actually ended up returning this monitor as it was too large for my space.  According to the Dell product brief for this model, the monitor is indeed mountable.  I wanted to attach the link, but Newegg's preventing me from doing so.  There is mention of a VESA mount as well as simply 'wall mount'.  Hopefully your universal wall mount will work.  The product brief PDF for this monitor contains this information.  As I can't link you there, a standard search should get you there. Good luck!

is this a glossy moniter and what is ips?

Glossy? Heavens, yes. When the screen is off, or if you open a terminal window with a black background, you can use it as a mirror.

IPS is "in-plane switching".  Basically, they use a bit more power, and cost more, but have better color accuracy and viewing angle characteristics than the "twisted nematic" (TN) technology the replaced.

From Wikipedia: "IPS (In-plane switching) is a screen technology used for liquid crystal displays (LCDs). It was designed to solve the main limitations of the twisted nematic field effect (TN) matrix LCDs in the late 1980s, such as relatively high response time, strong viewing angle dependence and low-quality color reproduction. In-plane switching involves arranging and switching the molecules of the liquid crystal (LC) layer between the glass substrates. This is done in a plane parallel to these glass plates."

Can this be wall mounted?  Specs don't say VESA size or capability.

The panel clips to the stand via a little quick-release, spring-loaded mechanism. Under that, however, there are four corner-placed screws/screw holes that, at a glance, appear to be consistent with VESA.

This monitor will work fine with your MacBook Pro. Using a display port to HDMI connector, that can be found just about anywhere for under $20, this display is just like any other 1080p monitor. The colors are very vivid, and the screen looks great because of the glass display.

Whoever said that it would be too much "scree" to use with a trackpad... just don't listen to them. being such a large display will only scale the OS to the same dimensions of any other 1080p monitor.

Don't know much about apple laptop connection, but if your laptop support HDMI, VGA, or DVI then this screen is perfect for you. It is sharp for normal use but if you are looking for a higher quality setting than I don't recommend this one. If you are a graphic designer than get the Apple monitor which is more fitting to your apple laptop.

Yes.  My setup is exactly the same.  Monitor connected to Mac Mini via HDMI.

What are the actual viewable dimensions of this monitor and does it work in a dual monitor configuration?

The viewable dimensions are approximately 23 1/2 inches wide by 13 1/4 inches high.  I haven't tried to run a dual monitor configuration -- I don't see any technical reason it wouldn't work, but I don't think it would look all that great, since the bezel is almost an inch wide all the way around.  If you had two of the same model side by side, that would make for about a two inch gap in the middle of your display.
