This is a matte display (non-glare). I use it in an office with florescent lighting and do not see reflections.

From the lowest point on the stand, how much further in inches does the top of the monitor go up (using the adjustable base)?

From the lowest point to the highest point on the adjustable stand, I would say the distance is pretty close to 5 inches.  I measured to the top of the screen from the lowest point on the adjustable stand to the top of the screen to 15 1/2 inches and as for the highest point of adjustment it measure 20 1/2 inches.

resolution 1024 possible?

Possible? Yes, but not preferable. The native aspect ratio is 16:10 and resolution is 1920x1200,  anything else is going to be scaled. This display does seem to handle scaling fairly well, in my limited testing. Switching straight to 1280x1024 will stretch the display considerably, looking pretty bad. However, the display does have an aspect ratio setting in the menu, allowing you to force 4:3 and 5:4 also. Forcing 5:4 and selecting 1280x1024 will place black bars down each side about 2" wide. The image is a bit fuzzy, more like a $75 panel, rather than the outstanding $300 panel that the U2412M really is. If the ratio isn't as big a deal, and you are more interested in reducing pixel density, 1680x1050 would be a better choice. Then you could take full advantage of the whole panel and the 16:10 ratio.

Does this monitor have an aspect control function?

Yes.  In the menu you can manually select three different aspect ratios:  16:10, 4:3, 5:4.

can i watch cable tv on it?

It's a monitor, so it does not have a TV tuner built in. If you were to attach it to a DVR or something with a tuner, you could then watch tv on it.

Mac book pro compatibility? connection?

You would need the correct dongle -  either VGA or DVI (or DisplayPort, but that's much less common). The monitor comes with a VGA and DVI cable, so if you have one of those dongles, you'll be all set.

This monitor is great color accuracy out of the box, and is a great value for those doing photo work.  As with any monitor, if color calibration is a serious requirement, you will want to additionally use a color calibration system to get the rest of the way.

Does this monitor have a touch screen?

No, this monitor (at least the one I have) does not have a touch screen.

Question 9

I bought this monitor and a HDMI to Display Port cable to go along with it.  The monitor does not seem to communicate with my laptop even when using this conversion cable.  Is there anyway for me to use the screen with a laptop that only has an HDMI port?

DVI and HDMI have common signaling. You can use a DVI to HDMI adapter, plug it into the monitor and run an HDMI cable between your laptop and the monitor. (Note: Sound will not be supported over this connection.) I have several of these monitors and use them in exactly this way myself.

does this monitor pivot 180 degrees to present a long instead of a wide monitor?

It only rotates 90 degrees, but it presents a vertical orientation. 180 degrees would just rotate the monitor upside down. I can only assume that you mean making it vertical instead of horizontal so you can view documents full size entirely on the monitor at once, which it does.
