Dell UltraSharp U2713HM Black & Silver 27" WQHD IPS-Panel Displayport HDMI Widescreen LED Monitor 350 cd/m2 DC 2Million:1 (1000:1), height&pivot adjustable

Pros: Really, really great color and clarity. Side by side with a cheaper 25.5" Westinghouse monitor, the difference is extremely easy to see. The colors are truly fantastic. There's a lot of contrast, and it's plenty bright enough. Well worth the price difference for the most visible part of your computer. I did a test for dead/stuck pixels and I couldn't find any.

Cons: Because of the large variety of adjustments available (Height, Pivot, Swivel, Tilt) it is actually pretty difficult to get the monitor to be level. The swivel is very nice, but the pivot makes it actually pretty difficult to get it parallel to the ground. The monitor is very large obviously and fairly heavy - but the adjustments were not very stiff. There's no lock that I could find, and I worry that in a few years gravity will take its toll on the adjustments and it will be impossible to position properly. Maybe it's better suited for wall mounting.

Pros: Excellent monitor! Good colors, deep gray/black, and good response time for gaming (bf3).

Cons: Heavy.

Overall Review: Just wanted to clarify some misleading information posted by another user for this monitor. First of all, this monitor is an AH-IPS, not P-IPS. Moreover, Dell's U2711, U2411, and U3011 are all H-IPS, not S-IPS. S-IPS came out in 1998 and H-IPS was recently developed in 2007. Please get your facts straight. A quick search on Dell's website will confirm these facts. Also, to give this monitor 1 egg because it is not supposedly a "real IPS" is puerile and misleading to other potential purchasers. Out of curiosity, why would someone who owns a U2711 spend $699 for a LCD so he could place it side to side with the U2711 to further scrutinize this monitor? If you knew it was a P-IPS (even though it isn't), why waste the money since it's not a "real IPS."? I'd recommend doing research if you still have doubts. But don't let the 1 egg dissuade you from giving this monitor a chance.

Overall Review: I am so far highly impressed with this monitor. I replaced a Dell 2405FPW that I have been more than happy with for about 7 years. I have been hesitant about nearly every monitor I thought I may want to upgrade to because the 2405 had set such a high benchmark for me. Over the years all monitors I would read about would always seem to have one thing that reviews complained about that my monitor didn't have wrong with it and it was always enough to just keep what I had. But the Shellshocker price on this was too hard to pass up. I was extremely nervous of reviews that talked of backlight bleed with the U2713HM. That is a flaw that I don't think I could live with as I would see it every single time I sat down in front of it. So, after unboxing the monitor (great packing by the way!!) the very first thing I did was pull up a black backlight bleed test and killed the lights in the room. I was so thankful that my monitor did not exhibit even a little bit of bleed at any of the corners like so many others have noted. Once I was able to breathe that big sigh of relief, I started looking at games, pictures, and movies to see what kind of difference I had just gotten over my trusty 2405.. and WOW...WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Until now I didn't realize just how NOT white the whites were on my old monitor. And the colors on the 2713 are so vivid and bright in comparison. Also, I never thought the anti glare coating on the 2405 was an issue or intrusive, but now looking at the 2713, I can say that Dell did a great job making it much more transparent. I also bought this monitor for the pixel density. It is indeed a noticeable difference compared to a 24" 1920X1200 monitor. Some may be put off by the smaller text and UI, but I actually like it more. It took an afternoon to adjust to it, but everything is just so sharp and clear. A note to those interested: This monitor has a native resolution of 2560x1440. Make sure you have either Dual Link DVI or Display Port outputs on your video card, as they are needed to run at full resolution. The hdmi input on this monitor can only support resolutions up to 1920x1080. I am using a mini display port - to - display port 1.1 cable from a Radeon 6950 with no issues. NO REGRETS ON THIS PURCHASE!!!

Pros: As usual, Dell give you a good setup of cables with the monitor. It's pre calibrated from factory and is ready to go when you get it. The monitor had good colors and brightness as usual from Dell UltraSharp monitors. But that is about it this time.

Cons: Before this monitor, I loved Dell monitors. I have owned a Dell u2711 that I loved and I have friends that also love there Dell monitors in the UltraSharp series. But this monitor changed all that for me, or at least I won't go for the cheaper UltraSharp versions next time. The monitor had serious 'cross-hatching' effect (diagonal lines) all over the screen. The lines were quite faint and just noticeable enough to be distracting, especially on white backgrounds and around the bottom of the screen. I could even see them in movies and games some times. After a lot of searching around, I finally find a Dell support forum thread (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/t/19502361.aspx) A lot of people in that thread is reporting this issue (and other stuff). Many of them have received multiple replacements monitors, all with the same problem, so I did not even bother to return for a replacement, I took the money back and ordered another monitor. After this experience I just can't recommend this monitor. If you still want a Dell, go for the U2713H model, its more expensive but don't seem to be affected by this issues from the information I have found (and according to some in the above forum thread)

Overall Review: If you get this monitor without the cross-hatching (your lucky), it will be a great monitor and a buy you won't regret. Dell do make great monitors, most of the times....

Pros: Fantastic features, USB hub is wonderful. Simple OSD. Acceptable colors out of the box. Top notch Warranty. One of the better screen coatings of the 1440p class monitors. It is hard to find a monitor with enough AG that isn't overpowering for non professional use. I personally prefer glossy however those MFGs charge higher premiums.

Cons: Yellow BackLightBleed. I'm not talking about IPS glow, which usually requires dark room, dark screen and sometimes certain angles to be seen. I've had to return this model with build date oct 2012 with rev A00 twice to another retailer because of it. This model shares the same build and revision. It isn't quite as bad as the previous models however it is still there, bottom left corner a yellow bleed that dirties whites and discolors blacks. Becomes much more visible in a dark room watching anime with dark scenes. Both of the other two U2713HM displays developed image retention issues, however this one is currently free of that. I'll give it more time obviously before I truly decide to accept its flaws.

Overall Review: For the price this display retails for you would honestly expect much higher quality control. Personally I don't think blatant defects should be as bad as they are with this display. Glow is almost unavoidable but discoloring bleed isn't acceptable in any price ranged display. It is my wish that the other issues that plague the U2713HM don't visit mine. If you want to get the best out of your display, you'll still need to color calibrate it. Overall the display is a wonderful unit if you can get one without the issues that I keep running into. I was very hesitant on buying the U2713HM again however dell is generally a great company with a good warranty. I thought I'd have better luck with a different retailer. Hopefully my issues remain less than severe.

Pros: The prices is pretty good.

Cons: dead pixels , one DOA

Overall Review: i purchased 3 of these , one was DOA, and one is showing dead pixel at exactly 6 months. They BARELY get used, they have been sleep for most of the time i have owned them.

Pros: Great image quality Bright Good price for performance.

Cons: Diagonal textured bands on whites/grays/some colors

Overall Review: On a bright background (e.g. white), the lower half of the screen displays a faint pattern of thin diagonal alternating bright and dark bands. It's barely noticeable at arm's length, but quite noticeable if you look at the screen from half that distance. This is enough of a turn off to have returned the monitor, unfortunately. I compared to an Asus PB278Q (side by side) and the Dell does have better image quality, but those annoying textured bands are hard to ignore.

Pros: The 2560x1440 resolution was amazing and the overall color quality was fantastic. The adjustable stand was sturdy and worked well. I also enjoyed the USB 3.0 ports on the side.

Cons: I could not get past the significant back-light bleed on the lower left corner. At first I only noticed it on letter box movies but then it became more apparent in full screen shows and gaming as well. There was also very noticeable IPS glow. These effects were in all lighting situations with the darker environments being the worst of course.

Overall Review: After reading about many other people with the same issues and plenty of reviews online that found them as well I decided to RMA this monitor for a refund.
