How long is the connecting cable between the speakers?

The wire connecting the two speakers is approximately 2 feet long.  They reach from one side of a 23" monitor to the other.  The wire from the speakers to the CPU is about the same length,   or a bit longer.

Will these speakers work without using the usb connector?

They have to be plugged into a USB port somewhere. It is where they receive the power they need to operate.

They have really good sound for the price. They are very light-weight and don't take up much space.

About how big are these speakers & is there a headphone jack for me to plug into the speakers while they are connected to my computer?

The speakers are about 6.5 inches tall, and 2 inches wide. Theyre fairly small but fit oerfectlly under my monitor when i hook them together(magnets) and lay them on the side.

Sadly, there is no headphone jack, which is my biggest complaint about these.

are these desktop computer speakers?

Yes.  Pretty good sound and volume.  They have magnets in one end that can help connect them together and mine sit right below my desktop monitor.
