Pros: Unlike the Cons section, these Pros should be relatively universal and should be representative of this model of laptops.
-The snakeskin pattern looks really nice and sets it apart from other gaming laptops that usually stick with red lines and "aero cuts" on the lid (Alienware-esque).
-The logo glows red when it's on but otherwise is a reflective silver. Very cool.
-Keyboard + Touchpad
-The keys feel great. Just enough give and decent travel. The layout is standard North American and the macro keys are very well organized.
-The touchpad feels really smooth and has a very nice tactile click when you press down on it. Multi touch gestures are very straightforward and doesn't take much time to figure out what they do.
-Not a whole lot of screen flex, but feels painfully plasticy. Probably done so for weight reduction.
-It's extremely easy to carry the laptop with one hand. It's by no means XPS light, but it's light for its class (15.6", 1060 6GB).
-Very smooth hinge. Weight of the laptop is all at the bottom so you can flip up the screen with only one hand.
Cons: Preface: These are all problems regarding hardware and software that I observed with my specific laptop and don't necessarily represent the rest of this model or ASUS laptops as a whole.
-The laptop often got stuck on the Republic of Gamers logo during boot-up and wouldn't respond to any inputs. I had to force restart several times to get it running.
-ASUS tech support suggested a fix by resetting BIOS launch options and as I was speaking with them, the laptop got stuck on the logo. Had a good laugh, then filed for a RMA.
-Occurred in games like CS:GO and World of Warships.
-I originally suspected that there may have been a problem in the way G-Sync worked with my 60hz monitor, but it didn't change anything even after I disabled it for CS:GO.
-This laptop doesn't have Nvidia Optimus so it's always rendering things through your GPU. This makes for terrible battery life.
-ASUS tech support said the estimated battery life on idle use for this model should have been about 3-4 hours. Mine crapped out in just over 1.
-Another thing I was slightly concerned with is that after 3-4 hours of playing Destiny 2, the battery level sometimes read "Charging 94%" even though it was plugged in the entire time. As I'm typing this, it (correctly) says "Plugged in, 100%".
-Temperatures while gaming was about 85 Celsius while gaming and just over 70 Celsius when web browsing. The vents behind the keyboard were even hotter than the power brick.
-Could not for the life of me figure out how to disable palm tracking which made playing World of Warships a nightmare without a mouse. Before you go typing "use a mouse then", I usually only play using the touchpad in between lectures on a bench.
-I should also point out that laser mice (I used the Logitech M500) don't work particularly well on the laptop's inner surface, but then again, laser mice are rather picky...
Overall Review: Once again, I'd like to point out that the problems are not necessarily with this model of laptop, but the quality control. I'm almost certain beyond a reasonable doubt that I received a lemon. Even ASUS tech support recommended that I file a RMA it or send it in for repairs since I had so many problems with it. I opted to return it because I know someone that had multiple hard drive failures on another ASUS laptop had to wait weeks for it to be fixed every time.
Otherwise, this laptop has very good value, with its 120hz monitor and 6GB 1060, and I would definitely recommend taking the risk if there's a good sale on this laptop.
Pros: I bought this mainly for gaming. Everything works great, no main problems so far.
Cons: Laptop does get hot when gaming. Cpu temps were high 80's which is too hot for me (even though Asus considers this normal).
Overall Review: I had to turn off Turbo boost on the Cpu (I don't like it anyway) and I undervolted my cpu. Now, the highest I've seen cpu temps when gaming is 72C, Gpu temp 70C and I have not loss any performance. This is without any aftermarket cooling pads. So, for the price and performance, I am very satisfied.
Pros: It has a great 120hz display. The size and weight is not bad aswell. I like how fast it is to boot up and open applications and programs. And also how it handles games even on their hightest settings.
Cons: The battery, like other reviews said, drains very fast. And I think it's because of the display. The USB ports are a little tight. So I have to like pull the flash drive downwards for it to be removed safely. Sound crackles up sometimes, but I yhink it's just the drivers.
Overall Review: All in all, it still the best laptop that I ever had. Money well-spent on this notebook. And really optimized for gaming. And by the way, I am receiving points in the ROG Elite Rewards loyalty program for my review. Thanks :)
Pros: The laptop is beautiful.. aesthetically it is an amazing thing to look at, and the specs are great...
-Great to show around
-Plays games great when its not causing issues.
Cons: Issues happened since day one. Had to return the first one when the fan began to malfunction out and make click noises within just a week of buying it. If you hear the fan giving a strange sound, do not keep it and hope it goes away... i tried to wait it out and nearly missed my opportunity to return it.
When i received a new one after having to return the first, it runs great, but i noted a few issues... the ROG program keeps freezing and getting stuck... even getting my colors to work on the keyboard has become problematic... i have to completely shut off my laptop for the issue to fix.. its an error many of these laptops have apparently when i looked it up. i also noticed that my battery craps out less than an hour.. yeah ONE hour of being off the plug. The advertised time is 2-3 hours i believe, so getting a laptop that dies within an hour defeats the purpose of having a laptop... I cannot carry this to places without it dying in an hours time, and that's with low settings... I find it depressing. My brother bought an OMEN and had no issues with it, and its making me regret my decision. I'm trying to see if maybe there is something that can be done to fix the battery life and the program from glitching each time. I will probably call tomorrow. As of now the rating i give this is low until my issue is resolved.
Overall Review: I do not recommend this product as of yet. Maybe i have been getting bad luck, but i hope they can fix my issue... i will be contacting them tomorrow to see if maybe i need a new battery or something. I got this computer back three or four days ago.
Pros: - 120 hz
- Nice feeling keyboard
- Nice design
Cons: - Weird fan rutter that would last for two seconds and completely stutter my laptop.
- Fan gets annoyingly loud for basic browsing and laptop gets insanely hot.
- Battery life is terrible lasts around 1 hour and 30 minutes.
- I paid 1200 for this "good deal" but now am losing money because I cant get full retail back.
- Dont purchase this laptop get an MSI or something else instead.
- The 120hz isnt worth it for the problems that this laptop comes with.
- Experienced alot of stuttering and freezing issues.
Overall Review: - Would not recommend.
- Once battery issue is fixed maybe id recommend.
- Also fix the fan rutter that everyone experiences.
Pros: - I really like the build of the laptop and it is worth it with the price
- The Keyboard is really nice and pretty decent
- I haven't really used it much as I just bought it a week ago but I really like it
- RGB Keyboard
- Very fast
Cons: - I hear a noise (scratching) in the air vent even just browsing and not even doing anything which is really annoying
- It gets really hot
Overall Review: - Would recommend it but not for really hard gaming, PC is the really best option but this laptop is really has a good feel
- If there is no noise on the air vent would be perfect
- All in all good build
Pros: first of all at the first year it serve me wall
at the second year it started to break as the keyboard back lighting stopped working the volume down has also stop working (Stay with me to tell you something about the keyboard) ,as that is minor thing compare to the GPU fan which stuck at full speed all of the time ,i think it was intentional as replugging the battery will solve it for 3 months. THE third year ,i reformatted the laptop and after i Installed the newest bios the FAN problem got back but the keyboard lighting was back for a week :) the GPU fan start to break and with it the GPU stopped working,
i clean it every 6 month with new thermal past nothing changed of the FAN problem
it starts to melted down a little at the fans
Overall Review: not a long time solution
Overall Review: Fan fluctuates between full **** blast and silent the entire time its on no matter what its doing even just sitting there doing absolutely nothing....... I definitely don't recommend this
