does it work with ubuntu operating system?

Not entirely with 14.04 at least.  The NIC is fine, Ubuntu loads the firmware properly, unlike Debian which has a burr under it's saddle about 3rd party firmware.  The problem is the built in video which is problematic with Xorg.  VIA dropped directly supporting Linux a while back and this especially affects drivers for its onboard video.  I would not buy this board if you intend to use it with a graphical desktop in Linux (text console is fine).  Do NOT buy this board if you intend to use it with FreeBSD as there is a bug in that OS which prevents it from booting in versions 9 & 10 and will freeze when it gets to the sata initialization.  OpenBSD works just fine as of 5.6.  NetBSD works "ok" if you turn off ACPI.

What case and power supply would be appropriate to order wirh this combo?  Looking for low to mid price range.  Also, will standard size hdd and stahdard size dvd drive work with case?

I use Apex MI-008 case with an included Power Unit (low wattage) to support the Mini ITX form factor.//There is room for std HDD or DVD but not both. I use the slot for an Internal DVD while using an external SSD for the operating system & data.//If you are not wedded to Windows, try experimenting with various flavors of Linux, Linux Mint17 Mate and PC LinuxOS work for me (via Distrowatch & Linuxtracker). Is DDR3 1066 the only type of memory that works with this mobo? Could I use 1333 or 1600 instead?

I wouldn't use memory that isn't listed as supported. It could work but the board might slow the faster memory down to 1066

if i use this memory ddr2-800 it is compatible for this board?

I have not tried DD2 RAM on this board. I highly recommend using Low Density RAM Chips on this board. I have used Kingston (KVR13N9S8/4), and A-DATA (AD3U1333C4G9-R) on this board. Both worked, but the Kingston RAM was not recognized entirely: Only 4 GB of 8 GB installed was recognized). A-DATA AD3U1333C4G9-R was entirely recognized (8 GB). Low Density RAM only! Also, consult the RAM compatibility guide on ECS website for this board - Very important!

Hello Joey T. - Regarding your question: The oldest OS that ECS recommends is Windows XP 32-Bit officially. It may be possible to run Windows 2000 Professional, but it will be unofficially supported by ECS. I can imagine that running Windows 2000 Professional with SATA connectors  and SATA Hard Disk/DVD Drive will be hard if not impossible because previous commenters mentioned that even Windows XP has problems when installing unless you slipstream the installation CD with Service Pack 3 due to no SATA support (Natively) with Windows XP before Service Pack 3.

What is the highest resolution that it will support on Youtube?
Thinking of building an Android -X86 machine for granddaughter.   She enjoys video on Youtube.

I wouldnt recommend this for a media machine at all. I set it up using Windows XP, YouTube was very laggy at 360p. It might do better under windows 7, if that was a driver issue. But don't expect android to run any better, I usually run into driver issues with Android x86

I set this board up for a client that needed to run sewing software and and part time NAS.

Is this motherboard affect anything and is it compatible with most graphics card?

I'm not sure what you mean but "is this motherboard affect anything" - but the short but sweet piece of information to know with this board is that it has serious incompatibilities with the popular linux distros. If you're running windows, you're fine.

Question 9

Is the motherboard compatible with CPUs that have more than 800MHz? If not, should I use an Asus Asrock instead (ASRock E350M1 AMD E-350 APU, for instance - closer to what I'm looking for, but more costly)?

This CPU is actually clocked at 1600mhz and has an 800mhz bus speed. (I thought it was 800mhz for a while too until I did a little more research! The item title is what threw me off) Since the CPU that comes pre-installed on this motherboard and the AMD CPU's you mentioned have different socket types, you can be almost certain this motherboard will NOT be compatible with the E-350/E350M1. Also, it may be worth noting that this CPU also only has one core, whereas the E350's you mentioned have two cores. This can be a drawback or a benefit depending on your intended use for the board. Would you use this board for gaming? or what board would you think would fit my gaming needs?

I believe this board is okay for Basic Games. I played PacMan: Adventures In Time (Game From Year 2000), and it played quite nice. I have not tried games like GTA on this board, but considering that it's a 1.6 GHz Single Core VIA Nano CPU, it might work but have Graphic Capabilities tuned down due to CPU and Graphic Chips limitations. I used this board for Reel Deal Slots and WMS Slots: Little Green Men and it's worked ok.
