Can I use the ethernet port on this to connect a device to my LAN?

Yes!! I turned off the wireless on my laptop, plugged in an Ethernet cable to it and was surfing again like no ones business. I liked it so much I bought a second one for the other end of the house so now I have no dead spots anywhere in the house.
I highly recommend this product.

Question 2

Can these be daisy chained?
i.e. router --> extender --> extender --> extender
If I bought three.

You should check with Edimax directly online. I havent tried it but the daisy chain youre talking about might work if you program each unit directly from your PC (see manual on Edimax site) and then deploy the units out to your prefered locations. This assumes each subsequent unit can pickup and rebroadcast the original 2G/5G signals. Note that the signal isnt boosted by this unit, only repeated/extended.

Question 3

Will this improve network speed in situations where low signal strength might be throttling the wireless connection?

Absolutely it will. I bought it for the dual band aspect. 5Ghz will work better than 2.4. Not that you need a router that is dual band, but for this to serve it's purpose, you should have a dual band router and/or a dual band wireless card/adapter on your computer. If not a cheaper 2.4 Ghz repeater will be more cost effective. Setting up is not as easy as claimed. Though I am not a networking expert, I'm no slouch either, and there were some difficulties in setup, at least for me. but once you get it on autopilot, it works well. I'm not aware of any "throttling" issue on my setup.

I have a comcast cable modem and a netgear dual band wireless router.  does this extender work with this equipment and how does it connect?

"The Edimax range extender should work with your wifi gear, however you should google Edimax's website and download the manual for the device so that you understand how to set it up properly before you buy it. Typically with Edimax devices you have to connect them to the LAN port (RJ-45) on your computer while your PC is connected to your wifi network. Edimax provides a small LAN cable in the kit but your PC must have an available port. Once you've programmed it, you power it down and move it to another receptacle in the house and power it up. It stores the IP info, grabs the wifi signal and rebroadcasts it. The instructions may also include info on setting up the extender using only wifi access without LAN but I failed badly when I attempted it. Note that the extender signal is only as good as the original signal that it picks up and rebroadcasts. If you place it on the ragged edge of your existing wifi range where the signal is weak, you won't get much benefit from it. It's best used on the same floor or level as your wifi router in a zone with strong signal. I tried using it to extend my signal to a second floor on the other side of the house and it wasn't good at all so I had to move it around a bit to make the most of it.

Can you use it as a bridge for a wired peripheral to it?

I want to use it as a 5Ghz extender to a device that can only do wired Ethernet.

I'm able to use it as a wired bridge on a PC at 2.5Ghz so in theory you should be able to use it on a wired device at 5Ghz. This extender needs to be in the same "plane" and within a reasonable distance of your wireless router else you'll get a very weak signal, especially at 5Ghz.  For instance, don't try to use this extender on a different floor/level on the opposite side of the house from your router, you'll be disappointed.   For that configuration I used the EDIMAX HP-5101K 500Mbps Nano PowerLine Adapter Kit and its worked great.

I have a Belkin  can not get it to work on second floor . Will
this product help?

Yes this will extend the coverage area but remember this need to be located close enough to your Belkin  to communicate. If you put this on the fringe of your coverage then performance will be slow.

Question 7

Can this be used as a wireless AP?  In other words, can I plug an Ethernet cable into it (connected to my main router) and use it to extend my wifi?

I don't think so. When I set up this WiFi extender, the firmware only seemed to offer the capability to replicate the wireless signal. The Ethernet port was described in the manual as an option for accessing the device during the setup process.

Is this auto voltage?can this be used in 220 v?

No drive is ever subjected to line voltage - the transformer brick always takes the voltage from the house and converts it down so that the drives usually run on 5V DC - so yes.

Question 9

Is this capable of being connected to a 12v car battery or any other DC power supply? Intention is to have it portable; take out to use with drone.

Accepted Answer

The short answer is no.  It runs on 120VAC only.  You'd need to be electronically savvy and open the device up to do a little MacGyvering, injecting 3.3v or 5v where needed.  Best of luck.
