Is this device compatible with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit?

Hello,  This device is completely compatible with windows XP, Vista, & 7 versions.  I have not tried it on Windows 8 or 8.1, but I have installed it on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit myself, and I have not had an issue with compatibility.

I would definitely buy it again. I haven't had any issues with it at all and it was extremely fast and easy to set up. I always have a good connection and I have yet to drop a connection while I'm using it. Overall amazing product for the price.

Question 3

for use of this device do I need a monthly internet provider?  Or does this allow me unlimited internet streaming for the cost of the device only?  looking for no monthly fees.

This doesn't give you an account with internet access. This is like installing a wireless network card without actually having to open your computer up. It plugs into a usb port, but you must already have a wireless internet available. Wireless internet is sometimes purchased from your cable company or phone company and they hook up a wireless router in your home. This item communicates with that wireless router.

Is this compatible with Windows 8?

Yes I have a computer out in my garage with widows 8 on it that i was  installing a new hard drive. The whole time, even though it is at least 20 feet away and through walls it worked fine the whole 6 hours I was on line with a man from India. It is still working fine. The picture actually makes it look big, but it is very small and gets in the way of other USB devices.

I noticed several user of this product said not to use CD that comes with EDIMAX. How do I get a driver and from where? Can I plug it in and let Windows 7 search for the correct Driver?

I used the cd.  No problems.   I installed on a desktop xp.  It is the small cd.  I would not advise using on a drive that takes the cd in rather use it on the drawer type so you can place it in the center.   I do not know if windows 7 has the driver.   The Edimax company may provide it on download.

Will this adapter work on windows 8?

I have only used this adapter on WinXP and Win7. I had to load the driver explicitly in both cases. I expect Win8/Win8.1 will be the same. The adapter should come with a 'mini-disk' with the driver on it. But, if you go to the Edimax website, you can download the latest driver there. Finally, Edimax says this product supports Win8/8.1 on its website.

Personally, I like this little guy. It's handy and small. It connects reliably at 150Mbps on my home network. It's priced very well, given it's performance and utility.

Yes it's compatible with any windows 7 PC with a free usb port. It comes with a drivers disc but I recommend downloading the newest one's for your OS at their website.

How practical is this adapter for online gaming, downloading, and such?

As far as i can tell, this asaptr works well for both online gaming and downloading. With the 150mBps connection speed downloads can go as fast as any consumer internet can provide, and the adapter has little to no lag, especially for wireless. However, as always, it is recommended to stick to servers with low ping, like usual,  because the adapter adds about 40ms. After only a week, I have had no trouble and maintained a very stable network connection. The only negative aspect I have seen so far is that to maintain a solid network connection, it is best to use the included utility. On the other hans, the utility is small, yet powerful, easy to use by novice computer users, but provides lots of information and customizability for pros.

is edimax ew-7811un compatible with a mac mini osx ver 10.4.11?

Hi Beth, I just tested this device on my 24" iMac running OX 10.6.8. I was able to get it up and running with a 100% signal 30ft away from my wireless router. Setting up the device is not plug and play, so you will need to download the 10.4 drivers from EDiMAX website (http://www.edimax.us/).  I hope this helps.

I'm looking for Internet that use a USB instead of DSL or Cable, I'm not sure if this is the one that I'm looking for. Could you tell me what this USB is for?

This is for Wireless internet, but you still have to have an internet provider to access internet. For example for you to have internet in your home you must purchase internet from someone, Cableone is one.  You can also use this to get wireless internet at a place like McDonalds or Starbucks.

The internet is not something floating around in the air that you can just pick up.  You have to pay someone to bring it to you.  Now after you have paid this person, you can connect to it using either a cable or a usb device like this.
