OSX 10.6.8: is it compatible? My Airport is malfunctioning and looking for a cheaper temp fix than sending it in for a $200 repair

It worked fine for me. I bought it for a computer I'm fixing up for a friend. I only used it for a few days as I was testing and d/l some drivers, but it worked flawlessly. Conected up to my home wireless network the second I plugged in the password. It seemed to be fast and consistent for the limited time I used it. (friend's computer is still here waiting to be picked up, so I don't know what happens long term. I'd buy another one though.   As far as your OSX, I couldn'tsay. I put it on a winxp machine.

is this usb 2 or 3?

Yes, this one (the AC600) is USB 2.0 (though it will work in a USB 3.0 port, just at USB 2.0 speeds because that is what the adapter is set to work at).

Conversely, the AC1200 adapter is USB 3.0 (though it will work in a USB 2.0 port, also at USB 2.0 speeds because that is what the computer port is capable of).

Question 3

Are there drivers for Windows 8.1? Have you actually tried it with Windows 8.1?

You should still be able to download from their US website or use the CD that come with the adapter. I think it should work. When I read the review from other people, they only have problem with win 8.1 and not win 8.0 or win 7 when using the driver from the CD.

Has anyone installed this on a Windows 10 PC?

I used it on my dell laptop that was upgraded to windows 10; it works quite well. I was using it for troubleshooting a problem I was having with the internal wifi adaptor  not working well with the preview version of 10. I upgraded my wireless adaptor to an Intel 7260 and the driver was erratic until about May. This tiny usb adaptor always worked well until a decent driver came along.

Its a fantastic adapter it has upgraded the wireless Wi-Fi speed although my router is dlink 2000 which does not support wireless AC Standard but it still connects 60mbps I'm sure if I had AC router,  it might give me more speed. is very good upgrade for Laptop Mac or any other thing which has a built-in slower than connections this is a must buy for the older laptops

No, a mini disc is included or download driver from EDIMx.  Great for testing, upgrading from G to N, and it's mobile - easy to move from PC to another.

Haven't tested or made comparisons for range but it has worked well in my circumstances.

will this work with hp with windows 98?

Dara brings up a good point. Most (if not all) Windows 98 machines did not have USB 2.0 ports - USB 2.0 didn't come out until April 2000.  I know my old Compaq Presario 1277 laptop with Windows 98 (circa 1999) had a USB 1.1 port (and no Plug-N-Play; in other words, if you inserted something into the port, the computer wouldn't recognize it without you rebooting it or if you inserted the device before you booted up the computer).

Therefore, I'm guessing that because the adapter is USB 2.0, and USB 2.0 is backwards-compatible with USB 1.1, the adapter might be recognized by your computer, but I don't know how much performance you'll get out of it because USB 1.1 is such an old standard and was far more limited in terms of transfer rates and performance than even USB 2.0. USB 2.0 is 480 Mbps (Megabits per second), while USB 1.1 is only 15 Mbps (1/32 the transfer speed of USB 2.0).

If you would, let us know if it's recognized on your Windows 98 machine and what type of performance you get from it - I'd be curious to know. :-) Thanks.

Laptop is having some issue with the wireless connectivity.  Will I need to remove the current wireless adapter or will this one when added be set to take precedence?

If it helps, almost all laptops have a physical hard switch you can use to turn off without having to fiddle with opening it up and removing. That way you don't have to give one up for the other if one isn't the issue. For example, I'm actually having the same issue with windows 7, think pad. I bought it refurbished but my router happens to be behind a wall in another room, same issue with my PS4. Seems I need a hard line or need to be in the same room for the built in adapter. Sometimes resetting the router helped, other times I had to be in the room. This adapter I haven't tried in my laptop yet but I'd buy another if I had another device without a built in wireless adapter (this USB adapter I use on my tower PC exclusively). If you need to stop the built in adapter without a hard switch, you can just set up the computer to stop connectivity to the built in adapter.
The Driver it comes with probably helps it take precedence if I were to guess if you had to have both on. The product description mentions "ideally to UPGRADE" and usually it means it either stops using the previous device or it takes priority before defaulting. (In my experience)

Will this work with a computer if it has 2.53GHz stock? (Windows 7).

Not sure I understand the question. Are you referring to the clockspeed of the processor? If so, that really doesn't have any relevance. This is a WiFi adapter that allows you to connect a computer (with USB port) to wireless network. AC means it uses the newest fastest wireless protocol which is useful only if you have or might get an AC wireless router in the future for it to talk to. The older USB 2 ports really don't do justice to the potential speed of this, if you have a blue USB 3 port it might be faster, don't have that expertise. I will add that I had hard time using this with windows tablet, just wouldn't recognize network, but probably a configuration problem that had nothing to do with device (thankfully less common than with earlier protocols)

Question 10

So on the product it says it has support of Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8, but now windows 10. Has anyone confirmed that this has support for windows 10?

If you just want to know if it will work with Windows 10, the answer is yes!  I purchased the Edimax and used it with Win 8 and has since upgraded  to Win 10, No issues at all. This little gizmo is stable and works like a charm.
