I would like to use this in bridge mode. Is line of site and I need one to transmit and one to recieve. And as far as security will any else be able to steal the signal if they have the same product?

This will work for what you want to do.  You will need one as an AP and one as a subscriber.  For security, turn on wpa-AES encryption and turn off broadcasting the ssid.  Both units must have the same encryption and same ssid.  If speed is important, look at a 5ghz (ENG500) product instead of the 2.4 ghz product.  This will give you much better speeds and far less possibility of interference.

Question 2

What kind of mounting kit would be used to install on an exterior wall and one on a pole? Where can I get it?

The mounting parts for walls or polls is included in the kit. The poll mount uses a hose clamp. See the fourth picture. It also has screw slot holes on the back for wall mounting. Put a screw in the wall push the unit onto the svcrew and slide down to lock it in place.

what range can be expected?

I recently purchased two ENH202 units to link an office that is about 1/4mile away from the main building. It has worked very well. One unit is configured as an access point and the other as an client bridge. Each building has one wireless router access set up; which is cable connected  to the units. All connected computers can talk to each other and access the connected internet.
The range can be many miles if you have a line of sight free from blockage. If there is blockage the effective range can be greatly reduced and may not connect at all.

Would this product be appropriate for a 270 degree radiation pattern or coverage area?

If the range is limited yes. It really works best at about 120 degree in front, but does have a 360 degree usage at a limited range. I have one on the outside of my house facing away that I gets a signal to the back of my house 40 feet back. The design is meant for long range line of sight. I have a setup for half a mile with line of sight that works great.

Question 5

i was wondering if this device would work for connecting to Comcast public WiFi? you have to log in to your account to access with a computer. i am getting low signal in an outdoor location i often enjoy using and was wondering if this would connect to that and make it stronger to be able to connect my laptop to?

Hi Justin-

I'll try to help!

800 feet is no problem for that unit (I'd think 3 times that distance would still be easy)!  You'll want to configure the unit in "Access Point" mode... NOT "Repeater" mode.

Here's the "ideal" setup, IF your layout can support it:
1) Connect the ENH202 directly to your router with an Ethernet cable (I'd recommend using the included POE Accessories, so that the Ethernet cable also powers the unit.  
2) THEN, try to mount the ENH202 to an outside wall that faces the farm office that needs a WiFi signal (there are several mounting options to connect to an outside wall... let me know if you need any suggestions);
3) In Access Point mode, your office inside the Farm Office should easily detect whatever you named the Access Point's SSID's.  If so, just enter the security code and you'll be on your way (even though you're probably in a more remote, rural area, make sure you've selected a decent password for your WPA2 connection.

That's all there is to it... IF you can get a cable that can plug into the router AND mount on an outside wall facing the farm house.  At the Farm Offce, you should see that SSID(s) and you'll be able to connect.

This "shouldn't" be too hard for you to accomplish... the distance is short and there's a good "line of sight".  They won't let me give "contact info," but if you need help, just write back, here, and I'll figure out a way we can communicate directly.  ALSO, I think you'll find Engeniustech's Tech Support to be more than adequate to help you.

Question 6

Can I use this as an AP and then use a wireless extender from about 200 yards away, or do I have to use something like an ens200ext and attach another wireless router to it.  I have my home router just indoors from where I plan  to put my ENT202, and i need to get a signal 200 yds away to multiple wireless clients, many not in line of sight to the ENT202 but they are LoS to another building where I currently have a wireless extender.  Any suggestions?

Yes this can be used as an AP. I have done that myself with up to 10 clients connecting to it directly simultaneously. Any extender should be able to connect to it as well. The ENH202 has a 10 dBi built in antenna that will allow it to receive signals from a greater distance than many other devices but the transmit power of the extender you use is going to be a factor. If you have clear line of sight it would probably work. If there there are many obstructions, trees or building then you'll probably have issues.

My ISP sends its wireless signal from a building about 2 miles away, is this what I need to RECIEVE that signal better?

While it may be possible to use this device as you have described; it is normally used as a line of sight bridge to connect two devices wirelessly. This will provide for network transmission to disconnected buildings on a business or college campus. It has a directional antenna that should be aimed at the transmitter which normally is also a ENH202.  To work properly you must have a clear line of sight between the two units.

does this need a seperate router and what is the max. high/low outside temperature ?

Speaking only from my own experience, I use mine as a bridge with a separate router although I think they have routing capabilities built in.  Check the manual for details.

Not sure what the operating temperature range is, you should be able to find that in the manual also.

I operate mine in Southeast WI which has been pretty cold over the last 2 years.  As low as 20 below 0 for extended periods of time, and I have not had any  issues.

Question 9

In practice, is the effective range of these "long-range" wireless access points limited by the transmit power of the client devices? For example, the AP has a mains-powered transmitter, but an iPhone has a battery-powered transmitter. At some distance, the iPhone can "hear" the AP, but can the AP "hear" the iPhone?

Does the AP have a powerful _receiver_, too?

I think client radio strength is frequently the limiting factor.  We have the ENH 202 deployed as public wireless access points.  We've found fewest complaints if we keep the ENH202 transmit power limited to the typical regional standard.

but the technical manual for the ENH202 only shows support for 802.11a/n. (section 1.1)

When set up as an access point it is 802.11b/g/n. If configured as a bridge it operates at 802.11a/n. Hope this helps. I have two of these one is the access point and the other one is a bridge and they have performed flawlessly for almost a year now.
