Depends upon the CPU cooler you will be using. This is the same retention holder that comes stock on ASUS Crosshair motherboard. It works fine with the stock CPU fan unit that comes with AMD AM3+ CPU. If your cooler requires a different retention clip, the after market cooler should include the appropriate retention holder.
