I want to buy 2 cards for sli does this come with sli bridge? or do I need to buy it separate, sorry if stupid question first time buying 2 nvidia cards.

No, it does not come with the bridge. The motherboard normally comes with a bridge due to the different spacing of PCI-e slots between boards. You can get a flexible bridge which will allow for more wiggle room, but I generally prefer exact spacing if you can find one.

Question 2

I am building a new system and want to purchase this card.  It states that a minimum 500W Power Supply is needed.  I purchased a 750 watt P/S before reading this.  Will that be enough or should I return and purchase a 850 or higher?

I have a 650 watt and it works great for this card. No issues after about 1 year.

The actual number of watts needed for your computer depends on the total power consumption of all components combined, so I can't say for sure if it is enough for your pc (maybe you have 10 hard disks and 15 cooling fans) but it should be plenty if your build is fairly normal.

Note that 500 watts in not the draw of the card, but the estimated draw of a basic system featuring this card. If you have liquid cooling and 3 hard drives, you will probably need more than 500 watts. But your 750 watts will give you plenty for something like that.

Also, power supplies tend to get weaker with age, but 750 should be plenty of wiggle room as long as it's a decent quality psu.

Question 3

I've been reading a lot about coil whine. Does that happen usually or very rare with this GPU?

Hello, no coil whine as of yet on my two gpu units. Very solid cards, although not all games support two at once. I recommend getting one, two if you love dual cards; luck of the draw likely on coil whine. Do not overclock and it should be a non-issue.

have any of you experience coil whining noise that most people had talked about in their review for the GTX970?

I have 2 EVGA 04G-2983-KR GeForce GTX 980 Superclocked 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 ACX 2.0 PCI Express 3.0 cards and do not have any coil whine.  Hopefully this continues to be the case.

Question 5

Does this card have any issues running on DisplayPort? I wish to run 3 monitors (One over DVI, one over HDMI, and one will have to be over DP whether I want to or not), but I keep seeing issues with DisplayPort connection to 900 series cards.

I have been running 2 1080p monitors (ASUS VG248QE & BENQ XL2420T) @ 120Hz over DP for a while now. The only strange thing I've seen is the Nvidia Control panel shows the monitors as 60Hz out of the box. Windows Control Panel display settings show them as 120Hz. And I have Lightboost enabled on both so I don't have to config the res from the Nvidia Control Panel. If your DP monitor is only 60Hz then this isn't something you even need to worry about. Otherwise DP is excellent in my experience and the card is outstanding!!!

I currently have a gtx 570 with 2 monitors that use DVI cords to connect, i notice this graphics card only has one DVI plug and what appears to be 3 mini hdmi, is there anyway to use my two current monitors with this graphics card? and do most monitors use mini hdmi now?

You can get an adapter to have an HDMI to DVI to use with your monitor. It has full HDMI slots. I personally use two of these Cards (In SLI) pushing my 4k 50" TV as my monitor. I also have a 2nd monitor hooked up to it in full HDMI as well. Works great for me. My systejm is an I2600K with 16 Gigs of Ram and I am using 2 512 Gig SSD is Raid 0 mode.

I see some reviews saying they have 2 of these... and with 4 monitor support I have to ask, why 2?? I can't imagine so many people are running more than 4 monitors!!

I run 3 & currently have 2 older Geforce 9800 GT cards, 2 screens off 1 card & 1 off the other. Wouldn't only 1 of these run my 3 screens and run them well? I don't game much but I do a lot of CAD and design graphical work.

yes one card would run your monitors. what people want to do with 2 cards and multiple monitors is mostly for gaming . it keeps the frames from dropping and stuttering under load. the more thing you have going on ,on the screen the frame rate will drop with 2 cards it combats that

Question 8

So, in the specs it says that a 500W power supply is minimum.
Does this mean that it will not be running at optimum if you have a 500W PSU?

I own an Asus G10AC (some desktop that I ordered on Newegg with a 500W power supply and a crappy OEM GTX760 that I need to upgrade).
Will this power supply be sufficient for the GTX980?  Or will I need to upgrade it?

Chances are 500 will be enough. Just remember if the power shuts off and creates critical errors. This could cause saving issues (although most programs have quick saves).

I run 4770k overclocked to 4.2, 16gb RAM, and 980 and don't typically run over about 500. So I'd guess you'd be fine.

Question 9

I noticed in the buyer feedback many stated the "back plate" was sold separately?
You have to buy the back plate separately in order to install the card?  Am I missing something?

The plate referred to is a cosmetic cover that goes on to protect the components on the rear face of the card. It is included in the better packages of the card but is sold as a separate accessory for other cards. It is not required to install the card.

Hello, I need a graphics card and I am between the EVGA 04G-P4-2983-KR GeForce GTX 980 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card (this card) and the ASUS MATRIX-GTX980-P-4GD5 GeForce GTX 980 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card which has only slightly lower clock speeds. I'm unsure which to get... can anyone help me out here?

You really can't go wrong with either. Both are the same core chip from reputable manufacturers. The performance difference will be subtle and you can overclock either one. If you have an ASUS or EVGA motherboard, I'd go with the matching brand of video card, but that's just the OCD in me.
