If I order this, how do I know I have the fixed version that doesn't overheat?

The 08G-P4-6686-KR FTW2 version is the fixed version of 08G-P4-6286-KR FTW, which has the heating issue.  The FTW version is missing a thermal pad that was provided after market by EVGA to anyone who requested it.  Otherwise, the FTW2 comes with it installed, added senses and a modest memory clock speed boost.  I've run my FTW2 through the paces and haven't had any issues yet.

If you have any issues, just contact EVGA support and they will help you whether its through a replacement or refund.  They are really good at keeping their customers happy, I know from experience, that's why I usually pick their cards over other brands.

Question 2

Do you need Precision X software to use this card?  My friend got one and was having problems locking up and we realized the fans only spin right at boot and then no more.  We didn't have Precision X installed.

You don't need the Precision X installed. The GPU is smart enough to not spin the fans when they're not needed. While under load/stress the fans will kick on, trust me. The Precision software is nice if you'd like to change the color of the LED's and set custom power, boost, & fan curves.

how long are the power cables? Will they reach directly to a power supply?

The cables included are just adapters that convert two 6 pins connectors into an 8 pin connector. The card is powered by two 8 pin connections. You'll still need the cables from your power supply to reach the card.

Did anyone try running games @4k with this on a 4k TV (or monitor)?

yes I have. I ran rise of the tomb raider at 3840x2160 4K if u tweak the anti-aliasing to SMAA and everything else to its highest I got 49 fps. I get 52fps if u overclock it.  This is on a 49inch Sony TV. I prefer to run at1560X1440 2K where I can  get 94fps.( I run vsync on to prevent tearing bringing my fps to 60)

Looking to either buy the FTW hybrid or the FTW2 the FTW hybrid has the water cooler going for it but the FTW2 has a higher memory clock speed. Is it worth ditching the water cooler to get the extra 1000 mhz?
