Question 1

Is this thing really nine inches long? that's massive, it must be a typo, no? The pictures don't make it look 9" long..

I just measured mine, 7 1/8 for the box only, with the wires I would plan on the full 9. 7 1/8 long x 3 1/2 tall x 6 wide. Measured by my own hands. Hope this helps.

can this be use on a intel i7 4790k processor with GTX 780 GPU?? it doesnt state haswell ready..

If the info you are not looking for is here, Go on EVGA's Official website and check to see if it is Haswell Ready, As far as i can see, I do not see why not honestly, But check just to be sure, Google is your friend :D

Question 3

The EVGA website says that this powersupply is 180mm long = 7.1 inches, the specs listed here on NewEgg is 9 inches.  Which is it?  It is a huge factor when building in an itx case!

Actually both are. The power supply itself is 7.1" (180mm) long, however, you have the clearance that the modular cables require, which brings the total length needed to about 9 inches. The connectors of the modular cables themselves extend about 0.5 inch past the end of the PS case.

You probably could make the bend radius of the cables tighter & reduce the overall length needed to maybe 8.25, but I'd be concerned with the strain on the connectors & pins.

Question 4

I do not see Haswell ready or certified in the description. Does the PSU support the new Haswell processors?

There is no information in the box or on it that specifically says that it is, but they do offer to answer questions about the product directly.  If you have not done so already I would suggest give them a ring or shoot them an email. Contact info is readily available on their site.  That said, I am extremely satisfied with this PSU - it is quite heavy and solid feeling, very flexible cables of which there are enough for about any conceivable configuration, and it is super quiet.  I have it powering my home server with 6 other case fans, 10 hard drives and the whole thing is quieter than my home theater PC, which makes me think I need to rethink my HTPC build...but I digress.  Good luck with your build.

Question 5

Will this work with a i7-4790k, GTX 970 or 980 with a Thor V2 case? I'm mainly worried about if it will fit into the case.

Size wise, normal, might be just a little bit longer (1/8 to 1/4) then some. Height & withe same as most. As long as your case has standard mount with slightly extra in front (as most cases do), no problem.

Question 6

Will this fit if mounted at the bottom of a case? It looks like the fan is for top intake.

I've just got it mounted upside-down on the bottom of my fiancee's computer case, never had any issues. The biggest issue I had was with its length; it is unusually long, and had trouble fitting in with the CPU's water cooling.

Can this PSU be used with AMD chips or is it Intel specific?

All PSU's today are generic and will work with either brand CPU... as it is the motherboard that matters, not the CPU, and all the motherboards are all using the same generic power connectors regardless of what CPU they're designed for.... so both Intel and AMD are producing their latest generation CPU's to be compatible with the the power requirements provided by the motherboard.

Will this all connect properly to a MSI A88X-G45 Gaming Motherborad?

And it should have more than enough connectors to run all the add on cards - videos, hard drives, optical.

Question 9

The MB cable seems to be missing pins. Is this normal for power cables? This is only my second build so I'm uninformed on what exactly to expect.

Hi,

I think I know what u are asking!

!st connect the 24 pin ATX cable to the motherboard (mobo) and PSU!  Line them up correctly!!!!  Should insert smoothly and make sure the clap snaps close!

Next connect the 4+4 pin EPS 12V cable to the motherboard

Finally (this is optional) if u plan extreme overclocking and your mobo supports an additional 8 or 4 pin CPU power conncetor, then connect the second 4+4 pin EPS 12V cable!  Note this is only needed for extreme overclocking or for dual CPU mobos!

Question 10

Whenever I overclock my cpu which is Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor and my gpu which is MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Video Card, Do I have enough power to handle it? And my motherboard is MSI Z170A GAMING M5 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard just incase it's needed to be checked also...

The good news is that most SSD's require less power than a traditional Hard drive; if you're replacing a spindle drive with this; you should be fine.
If you are overclocking; you should be aware of the TDP of your processor; the wattage of most components such as your GPU; Flash RAID; Radiator/cooling, etc. and be through in ensuring that your PSU (power supply) can handle the load with a fair overhead.
