I purchased four of these, to replace existing ones as they die. However, I have found that I must repeatedly hit the Outside Line number, 8, to actually get an outside line. Never had that problem before with the old phones, so I am wondering if the electronics in the new phones have changed, thus causing this problem?

I have not had that problem. I have had a different electronics problem on 2 of these phones in the past year. The second was a warranty replacement of the first. Both developed the same problem: the LED display completely lights up, i.e. showing all “8’s”, making it completely unreadable. Unfortunately, the replacement phone started doing this about 6 months after I received it and one month after the warranty expired on my first purchase! The replacement phone warranty only lasted from the original purchase date of the first phone. While the speaker phone seems to work fine, I will never get one of these phones again or recommend this junk to anyone. Too many problems, particularly if you're trying to run a business.
