The Rentier Institute
Since the beginning of the 18th century, the Rentier Institute’s agents effectively dismantle the vampiric dread endangering the pioneers of the West, operating as an undercover monster-hunting organization. It is currently directed by William Rentier, Jesse’s father.
Emilia Blackwell
Doctor Emilia Blackwell is an expert in Medical Arts whose set of skills eventually opened the door to The Rentier Institute. Aside from her regular duties as a medic, she researches the Sanguisuge. Her talent led her to become the leader of the Calico Cell.
Jesse Rentier
Jesse is an extremely proficient vampire hunter, destined to succeed to his father to the title of Rentier Institute Director. He embodies the creed of all RI agents: safeguarding the pioneers of the New World from the supernatural threat lurking in the shadows of the Old West.
Edgar Gravenor
Senior Agent and Jesse’s trusty partner, Edgar was asked by William to join him in the Rentier Institute, eventually becoming his right hand. Now at the brink of retirement, he’s a stoic but loyal man who always covers Jesse’s back, no matter what happens.
The Sanguisuge Monsters
From vampires hiding in plain sight to bloodthirsty monsters sent on rampage, the Sanguisuge, long hidden in the shadows, are now becoming a first-level threat to mankind.
Boo-Hag
In contrast to regular Sanguisuge, Boo-Hags can’t grow their own skin and their intellectual properties are very low. Nonetheless they’re fierce opponents, not shy to attack humans, often in packs.
Nagals
Nagals are ambushers and fast melee attackers. They have a unique ability to avoid small caliber fire which they will nimbly shadow-step. Usually packed in small groups, their howling can improve other Nagals’ combat abilities.
Leechers
Leechers are massive enemies who throw themselves into the fray wielding a huge spiky shield that protects them from most frontal assaults. If their shield is destroyed, Leechers can regenerate their defenses in preparation for another relentless rush attack.
highborns
Highborns are the strongest and the most powerful of all Sanguisuge species. Their powerful wings allow for devastating aerial strikes and they can call on swarms of bats to both damage foes and regenerate their own health.
Unusual threat require unusual tools
If conventional weapons can defeat most enemies, the Rentier Institute has deployed a feat of engineering to develop powerful tools capable of dealing with any situation. Pick your armaments from a vast selection of weapons and tools to decimate the vampire army.
Rifle
When you need perfect long-range precision (and fire power), the rifle is the perfect weapon for long range point damage and weak spot hits.
Scorcher
One of the less sophisticated RI weapons which sprays flames onto the unsuspecting enemies. The hidden wiring uses Gauntlet energy to slowly refuel its tank over time.
Gauntlet
A true staple of the Rentier Institute, the gauntlet provides a solid defense, gives an upper hand in a brawl, and is powerful enough to allow its carrier to toss enemies at each other. Its updated version can accumulate electrical energy, allowing agents to stun their enemies or simply turn them into ash.
Revolver
The RI revolver is handy, fast, and reliable. The signature hammer mechanism allows for rapid Fanning Shots, provided one’s hands are skilled enough.
