No. The discontinued ix500 and s1500 came with Adobe Acrobat Standard. IX1500 being the latest does not.

Are you only able to scan single loose sheets of paper, or would you be able to scan from a book you don't wish to destroy in process of digitizing it?

You can only scan loose sheets of paper.  It can handle many at a time but they must be loose and separate.  The only way I know of to scan a book without destroying the backing of the book by taking out all the pages is to use a flat top scanner that you scan the book one page at a time like you would with a copier.

In the past I have purchased Fujitsu ScanSnap scanners that came bundled with the full version of Adobe.  I am not seeing that listed on the specs for the ix1500.  I am not wanting to house all of our scans in the "Home" software but would prefer to be able to save each in a PDF format in a file location of my choosing.  Does the prepackaged software that comes with the iX1500 permit this?

What is great about this scanner is you are able to create profiles and selecting a profile will determine were the scan is saved.

No it is not.  I accidentally did that and it would not work.  I had to call tech support to help fix it.  So it is one or the other but not both.
