Question 1

Newegg advertises this as duplex scanner but all other websites I've checked never mentioned in=t can scan in duplex.  Does this really do 2-sided scanning in a single pass?

I cannot answer this question since I have never tried or even had the occasion to use it as a duplex scanner. I use it almost everyday and it has been excellent and I would recommend it to everyone.

Question 2

Why does the specs say 11x17 size?  Especially in the light of confusing answers by Colleen?

I have no idea other than maybe they copied the info from a previous scanner? 
If you look at the product's dimensions (1.30" x 10.70" x 1.90") - it's obvious there that you couldn't scan a piece of paper that was 11" in width.

Question 3

The specifications seem to be contradicting. Can this scanner scan 11X17 documents?

it's not even 11" wide (more like 10.5")

Question 4

I have a desktop ScanSnap ix 500.  If I install this smaller version for travel purposes on the same laptop, is there going to be any conflict or can I use both models interchangeably on the same laptop?  And can I save docs to the same files I've already set up with the ix 500 model?

I would assume so. I have both scanners but on different computers. The software for the two is the same.
