Can it scan Driver Licenses or Insurance cards through the feeder tray?

the ScanSnap does business cards quickly and simply.
the flexibility of the card is key.
thinner licenses can scan with a starting nudge to overcome the insertion angle.  credit card-thickness items like some insurance cards may create a bit of wear and tear with undeterminable results.

the scanner does scan very quickly and double-sided.  so for general correspondence and file-keeping it is well worth the price.
the bundled software is easy to use for file-management and record keeping.

Is this product compatible with Windows 8?

I work with a MacBook Pro, but I would have to say, "yes." More important than windows 8, however, I would encourage you to download Evernote. Scansnap does amazing things in conjunction with Evernote. Evernote is an amazing personal secretary and when used in conjunction with Scansnap , the possibilities are endless. 
I love the functionality of my Scansnap so much that I could be a salesman for it. Good luck!

Yes, Fujitsu ScanSnap 1300i is a color scanner. You will never regret investing in this amazing tool. It has changed the way I order my life and all the documents & photos in it.

how many pages per minute can it scan?

It depends on the dpi setting and whether its color or monochrome and if you duplex scan. At 300 dpi monochrome it's 8ppm, At 300 dpi color, its 4 ppm, at duplexing, its 2 ppm. From there the speed varies up or down depending on those three elements.

Does this have a TWAIN device?

It does not support Twain in either Windows or Mac.

I have not scanned photos but color copies of documents work perfectly.
