Question 1

Is this considered non-ecc memory? I am looking  to get a good quality 1GB DDR2 Non-ECC SDRAM, 800MHz that will fit my Dell 755 Optiplex. I am running Windows 10 32 so the most it can handle is 4gb.

Recommend you call newegg. They have excellent tech support and tell you right away what you need. I installed these memory chips in an old Dell E510 and they work great.

Question 2

Is this memory single sided or double sided?  My mobo can handle a 16 chip config, but only if it is single sided (though I have never seen a single sided 16 chip mem stick).  Otherwise, it can handle a double sided 8 chip stick (Intel DP965LT mobo).

Hi Dan,  I did a little checking because I was thinking your understanding about "x16 organization did not sound correct and I found this: forums .devhardware .com/ pc-hardware-21/ double-sided-dimms-with-x16-organization-are-not-supported-103960 .html (you will have to remove the spaces to make it useful.  Essentially, I just did a search for "Double-sided DIMMs with x16 organization" and found the answer.  Please have a look.  At worst, you could buy it, try it and if it does not work, return it.  While that is not preferable, it might be the only option.  I looked long and hard to find a compatible memory set for those older machines and this was all I found and it works nicely.

Question 3

Can the protectors come off? Are they too close to each other when all are inserted?

The heat spreaders do not come off, however I put these in a small form factor hp, DC7900 I think is the model, and they fit quite well they are just a hair smaller than the ram slots, so they breath ok as well.

Question 4

Will these work with a Compaq Presario SR2038X Desktop?

Check Crucial's website (Newegg isn't allowing me to supply the link). Click on memory. Then click the system scanner. It's safe. I suggest the system scanner because the model you supplied doesn't seem to be on the list.
