Question 1

I am trying to double my ram, and this set has the same latency, overall speed and is also a tri-channel kit, but it has a slightly different voltage (1.5-1.6 V vs. 1.65V).  Will the different voltages short out my RAM or my motherboard or other crucial component?

Hi Zac,

I've built a lot of PCs for myself over the years, and I have been an IT professional since 2004. My advice to you is to go to your motherboard manufacturer website, and find the memory capability list. Only buy memory from that list.

Also, I wouldn't mix RAM. Just buy all new RAM. Or buy exactly what you already have. RAM is cheap compared to the rest of the parts in your PC. At the  same time, RAM can cause major headaches when something goes wrong.

I recently purchased these and didn't research before I bought, but will this memory still work with a i5 cpu?

You should be looking at your motherboard rather than the CPU, as that's generally where the compatibility comes in. Most boards that support i5s should support DDR3 in some capacity, though. It might be at a slower speed than the maximum this RAM can support, but DDR3 will downclock itself if it needs to to the maximum of your board (as long as your board itself supports DDR3).

will this work for an asus p6t se ?

Yes, the motherboard your referring to, takes 240pin memory, so they would fit. 
Next time, just refer to the specifications of the motherboard to see what kind of memory/ram it takes.
