Is this compatible with X99 chipset?

This only works on x99 chipset I believe. X99 doesn't take anything that isn't DDR4.

With that said, some chipsets have issues with running at 2800 for the most part. You'll have to overclock the CPU to get the ram to read and even then you might have issues. I've yet to get this ram to work at 2800 speed.

can I put this in my x 99 asus  pro board?

I have built 3 Asus X99 computer with G.Skill Ripjaw memory and I have never had any problems.  If you look at the Newegg web page for the Asus board you would like to use the memory with you will see what speed memory the board supports.

Is this Compatible with the Z170 Deluxe? QVL says exact model but GRR not GRK any difference?

I wouldn't know without looking at both sets of memory so make sure you look at both sets and just check d make sure they match or are close most computer these days they overclock memory just like cpu's so they don't have to be prefect. but most things needs to match learn how memory works like latency is very important

Sorry if this is stupid question but will this kit work on a Z170 Skylake configuration? I read somewhere that Skylake only takes dual channel RAM - this looks like quad channel.

If is does work will there be a performance hit by using a quad channel rather than a dual in a Z170 setup?

Yes it will work and no it will not effect performance.  It will limit you to 32 GB that is all.

There is contradictory info re the voltage for these.
Some places say 1.2 volts, others say 1.25.

Will these run at 2800 with 1.20 volts on an Asrock Z170?

I put 2 G. Skill 2800 32gb kits on a Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard and there running at 1.20 volts with no problems.
You should go to the Asrock site find your board then check under support for memory qvl or memory support list.
This memory is on that list.

Can I use this in a Dell XPS 8700?  I know it will take 32GBs, but not sure about the speed.

Well that depends on Dell.  It works quite well in my ASUS x99E-WS mother board.  As I bought two of these kits to save money over a 8 x 8GB cost at that time.  I am not getting 2800 MHz but only can get 2333 Mhz out of my 64 GB memory.

Is this RAM short enough to fit with a Noctua D15 HSF on an Asus X99-A?

Short answer is : YES, the memory works with X99 and D15.

Longer answer: i have X99 Deluxe,  the same memory and the Noctua D15 HSF cooling unit attached to Intel i7 5930k processor. The only mistake I made was not populating all 8 memory slots at initial assembly. When I went to add another 4 sticks, I ended up with bloody fingers because the cooling fins on D15 are very sharp. I learned that you must remove the cooling tower to add/replace memory. 
Also, the memory is easier to seat properly without the cooling tower in place. With tower in place, assume bloody and frustrating 2 hrs to install. Without tower, assume 15 minutes for entire task including remove/reinstall tower.
