News: Do Gaming Keyboards Give an Unfair Advantage in Esports?

In competitive gaming, every millisecond counts. Players invest in high-refresh monitors, optimized mice, and specialized controllers, but one piece of hardware often overlooked by casual audiences is the keyboard. Gaming keyboards, particularly those designed with advanced switch technologies, promise faster input recognition and improved reliability. But do they actually provide an unfair advantage in esports, where even the smallest edge can mean the difference between victory and defeat?

Counter Strike seems to think so. Holding a peak player count of 1,502,245 in August 2025, have banned Hall Effect keyboards. You can find their article: here. These switches use magnets and sensors instead of physical metal contacts to register keystrokes. The result is near-instantaneous actuation, no debounce delay, and a virtually limitless lifespan compared to standard switches. This could create a disparity in competitive play.

I wonder if there is a study regarding this.

It definitely will add up with the delay of input vs display. So I think it will ultimately matter in the end.
