Question 1

I used a Kraken G-10 on my HD7950 with fairly good results. Using small heatsinks on my vrm didn't help much. My VRM still burned up because of poor airflow. I found making an air scoop and dam to direct flow, it helped a bit but when the card reaches 61c/142f it crashes. Course, the card's already fried. Am planning on getting a 290x. Does the kit cover all the VRM around the GPU?

The kit will cover all of the VRM's, yes, but not all of the VRAM. If you want to put heatsinks on the VRAM as well, which isn't necessary but wouldn't hurt, you need to get 16 heatsinks (since the card has 4GB VRAM which means 16 memory cores). I personally used this on an R9 290 and only put heatsinks on the VRM and not the VRAM. I haven't had any issues so far and it's been 3-4 months.

I have a R9 290 Sapphire Card (3 stock fan version) Can I take off the stock fan, and install these WITHOUT a aftermarket Gelid cooler?  thanks,

You are understanding something wrong. What you see here is some heatsinks that will cover the vrm on the card. But heatsinks are not good enough. You need something that blows air into them.

There is no 3 stock fan version. There are non-reference coolers and reference coolers. Non reference cooler 290 is a bad card since its incredibly hot and loud.  It only has one fan that uses push/pull to cool the whole card. The non reference coolers are better. Some have 2 or 3 fans.

I am not sure what do you want to do. If you want to install something like a kragen g10 this is necessary because otherwise the vrm will burn as it cannot dissipate heat fast enough itself.
This goes well with either a g10 or the artic cooler or the artic cooler accelero. The gelid solutions cooler is much much older but it might do it.

However non of this solutions will be a significant improvement from a non-reference card which you say you have. I would only ever recommend this to reference card users.

These go over VRMs. Google "vrm 290" no quotes and you will see. And are as tall as maybe 1.4cm. I can't remember. I got one of these. Installed a kraken g10. And did all I could like buying the best heat sinks additionally to these and still VRM temps were too high at 90s. I don't recommend this. They do their job, they fit and spread heat. But the 290 is too hot anyway.

The heatsink looks kind of small in the pictures. What are its dimensions?

Its like 3 to 3.5" long. It fits the 290/290x perfectly.

If getting the GELID Icy Vision Rev2 kit for 290/290z....u NEED the enhancement kit.

It has special heatsinks that will fit the 290/290x. The stuff in the Rev2 main kit will not fit on 3 different card heatsinks.  Need the enhance kit.

GELID is great for a single card. I wouldnt get it for Crossfire thou as its a 3slot cooler when done, double 3slot coolers raise the heat of the master card quite a bit.  My crossfire 290x....get 60c load on bottom card, 80-85c load on top card
