Yes BUT...
It will not take advantage of the higher speeds available with the newer series boards which, in most cases, makes very little real-time difference.  
NOTE: I have personally built over 5000 systems in 40 years.  I know what I am talking about.  While where is a technical performance difference, you will not "feel" it in the 1200 series.  Use the cheaper board.

will this support ryzen 5 3400g?

Gigabyte web site says with BIOS version F40 it will.  i've not gone higher than a Ryzen 5 2400G yet - which needs BIOS version F10 or higher.  All the boards I've purchased have at least had the F10 BIOS.  I build a lot of computers for clients.  If you get a board that doesn't have F40 BIOS you will need a graphics card to temporarily install so you can see the screen to load F40 BIOS.

Yes it will work fine, but Ryzen works better with dual channel... so a worthwhile upgrade in the future.

I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t.  While there aren’t XP specific drivers provided, they’re pretty standard chipsets,  Realtek audio drivers are the only downloads listed on Gigabyte’s website and we were using those all the way back to Windows 3.1

If it's in the compatibility list it probably will. But if it doesn't, Bios updates are so easy with the newer Gigabyte boards it's not even an issue!!!! Just make sure it's a compatible CPU!!

Upgrade to B550 chipset for that processor and check website for motherboard manufacturer for approved CPU list on selected board.
