Will this work for the Mac 8 Core
tower?

Requires a GIGABYTE X99 MB as there's a required jumper off the MB. Won't even work with other X99 MB's; ASUS makes their own version, also only compatible with their boards.

It works fine with Windows, but even if you "Hackintosh" Mac OS X onto it, it'll have recognition issues.

Question 2

Any fix for this and Windows 7?  This card wont allow the system to shut down.  When you shut down, the system just reboots.

I found that another purchasers work-around helped resolve the issue for me: 
Go into Power Options in Windows and deselect the 'Fast Startup' Checkbox to fix the shut down issue.

Will this work on a ASRock H97 Performance motherboard?

This card will work with any motherboard that has a Thunderbolt header, period.

Question 4

Does this have to be plugged  into my power supply or does it just have to be plugged into my motherboard? I just want to plug it in without taking a connector from my power supply.

This card does not require a connection from the power supply. It does require a connection to a motherboard header. The cable comes with the card. This card is compatible with Gigabyte motherboards only that are "Thunderbolt ready". Check the Gigabyte website for a list of motherboards. Hope this helps.

Gigabyte makes it sound like you HAVE to plug in the displayport for the Thunderbolt ports to work. That is not the case, right? The card can be standalone and act as two TB ports?

I am using it as just for drives and interfaces without a display.  I do not have the display ports hooked up and it is working fine.  Pretty sure if you need video you will have to hook that up.
