How wide is the bottom in inches?

4.5" at it's widest point and with the wrist rest attached about 8" long  with out it about 6" long.

Does the ball come out? Also, whats on the bottom of this?

The ball does come out. You have turn it over either take your pinky finger and push the ball through the hole on the bottom, it comes out fairly easy when you do that. To answer the second part of the question, the bottom has some rubber grips is all. I use an ergonomic mouse pad with this mouse.  i love this mouse and if you use Linux, it will work without issue. The ring that is around the ball works very well.  I will admit, it took a little bit to maneuver but once I figured how to move the mouse and overall use it everyday.  I hate using normal everyday mice.  Course I don't like normal mice and like using inverted mice such as this one.  It is well built and sturdy.  Hope this helps with looking at mice

How long is the USB cord?

It is not easy to get an accurate measurement of my cord the way I have it run, but it is at least four and a half feet (54 inches) long, and it might be 5 feet long.

Question 4

Will this work with my computer's PS2 port if I use an adaptor?

First, the device doesn't come with a PS/2 adpater.  Apparently, the implication of your query, and the other answer, are correct, as well.

I tried two AMD-based machines: Both had Debian LXDE installed. The lesser machine has XP installed, as well. My better machine has 7 installed as well. In no case would the Kensington, adapted to PS/2 with one of my adapters, function at any level. Indeed, my better machine indicated that It couldn't detect a mouse (trackball) at all.  Thus, I deduce that a PC BIOS apparenlty detect this in the first place. Kensington likely left out PS/2 functionality for this model.

My remaining older Expert Mouse (trackball) does function nominally. My better machine did request a reboot after installing the driver, though.

This is Plug 'n Play: Apparently, if you need PS/2 functionality for this--your out of luck.

This is the K72337 model, right? According to the upside-down pic, it is. I wonder if it's identical to some other ones here....

Geoff,

I've used trackball mice for decades because it makes more sense to move your fingers than your whole arm.  You already know that.

I can't attest to this being a "K72337 model" because I don't have the box and the bottom of the mouse I'm using just says Kensington Orbit trackball with scroll ring and it looks just like the picture.  A great mouse that works great.  You would be happy using this one.
