My 980 GTX's didn't come with any video cables. Does this monitor come with a display port cable?  If not, which cable is recommended?

This comes with a Display Port, HDMI cable and a DVI cable. My recommendation is to use the Display Port cable to ensure you can get the highest refresh rate offered with this monitor. Then HDMI though you will be capped on how high the refresh rate can go, and then lastly DVI if needed.

Is a single GTX 970 going to be powerful enough to get the most out of this monitor?

If you mean running black ops III with all settings maxed out at 2560x1440 and 165 Hz then the answer is definitely no.

You will have to make compromise in quality in order to push those pixels at the overclocked rate. Your card, however, is very well suited for G-Sync and with nvidia optimization you can get many titles to work at 60 - 100 Hz. Some less demanding titles, e.g. FIFA 16 will work at higher FPS as well.

Question 3

Is it true that the monitors lowest height setting still puts the screen 8+ inches higher than the desk surface? My current 27" IPS monitor is about 4 inches above the desk and I consider that perfect.

No, it goes all the way down to the boomerang feet. I just tested it and took a picture of it, but it says not to include any links so you'll have to take my word for it. btw my monitor came in 2 days and also it had 0 dead pixels and very minimal back light bleeding(ips glow). you actually can't see any back light bleeding in game mode.

Question 4

I have the XG270HU now (TN version with no G-sync).  Are the differences (IPS vs TN, 165 Hz vs 144 Hz, and G-Sync vs. no G-sync) worth upgrading to this model (XB271HU)?  I have an Nvidia 1070 GTX and my gaming is pretty much just WoW and SWToR.

Honestly this monitor has been by far the most important upgrade I've ever made to my gaming setup. Still use it now and love it. The upgrade to IPS over TN is substantial enough alone that I would recommend upgrading to it. The gsync I have off most the time and the 165 v 144 Hz you'd never tell any difference IMO. But the colors, richness and darker blacks there is no comparison between TN and IPS, IPS is so much better. They make good TN displays yours maybe one but I've never seen one compare to IPS. I bought a laptop recently with IPS at only 60hz, decided I wanted 120hz but it only came in TN. When I got it I immediately sent it back and had them return the IPS even with the 60hz because it just looked that much better. So if you want much better colors, and far better overall image I'd say for sure go with IPS you won't be dissapointed. You won't notice any change really with Gsync and 165 vs 144. So those I would not base anything on.

Will a single 980ti card handle this monitor for gameplay?  I'll have two monitors but only utilize one for gaming...

Yes, a single 980ti will make good use of this monitor. However, you will not be hitting the 165hz @ 1440p with any of the newer high-end titles coming out. However, with syncing and the amazing color, you won't even be thinking about that. I would say that a 980ti is the minimum to take advantage of the ultra-high refresh rates.

Yes you should not have any problems.I have been building my water cooled pc with a 4930k i7 and the card i bought for the build was the 780 classified hydro copper and this monitor was for this build but i have not finished yet so i'm using my old pc with his monitor and it has a nvidia gtx 660ti i play ghost recon phantoms daily,i lagg some with the cable for 2k so i use the hdmi cable and i can run it on 1080p and it does fine and i can put in on 2k with the hdmi cable,not same as the other cable but it does fine. I don't see why you should have any issues with that card. good luck. chris h.

Is this monitor glossy or does it have a matte finish?

The outer parts are all matte black for the most part and the screen seems to have more of a matte finish then glossy like a tv

Can't find drivers anywhere on Acers website. How do you overclock to 165hz without drivers?

The overclocking is done through the OSD (on screen display) and is actually a built in functionality in the monitor.

It should work out of the box for every monitor shipped assuming your graphics card / drivers support the refresh rate.

Is it worth playing the pixel lottery for this monitor? or should I just be safe and get the ASUS ROG PG278QR instead? Its TN instead of IPS but will probably be a lot more reliable.

If you mean potential dead pixels when you say pixel lottery. I think your worries are misguided. Or if you mean the backlight bleed issue you might have read about, that issue has been resolved for the most part with these monitors through tougher Quality Assurance. The difference you’ll notice with IPS vs a TN panel is worth it without a doubt if you are considering monitors of this price range. If by chance you do have a dead pixel or an exceptionally bad backlight bleed issue, I’m fairly certain you’d be able to return it for receiving a damaged product.

My vote is to get the IPS version.

Been thinking of purchasing one of these for so long.  Skeptical because of some of the reviews here regarding the bleed and dead pixel.  How has everyone's experience and satisfaction so far when you bought this monitor from newegg?  Hows the quality?

I bought mine earlier this year (first week of January), and I've had no regrets. I haven't noticed any dead pixels. There is some bleed in the bottom corners (most noticeable in the bottom right corner), but it is no more than expected from an IPS panel. The only time I actively noticed it during use (which has included gaming, watching movies and gaming, and a minimal amount of photo and video editing) was when playing the Thief reboot. Even then, turning down the brightness helped a great deal, to the point that I could only notice when intentionally positioning shadows over that corner. Tl;dr mine has been great. If I was buying today I'd be eyeing a 21:9, but this has been a great monitor.
