great basic LCD

ASUS VW221D 21.6" WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050 D-Sub LCD Monitor
ASUS VW221D 21.6" WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050 D-Sub LCD Monitor

Pros: very good price for a 21.6" lcd display from ASUS. i bought this on the very low price+ big/instant discount + free shipping deal. good color. no dead pix anywhere. very bright and clear. no ghosting on my moderate gaming with a x1950pro and omega drivers. ran ok out of the box. due to overall brightness had to reduce contrast and brightness level a little. so far very happy!

Cons: this is a very basic monitor. no ports for game boxes. no speakers. this is a 5ms monitor--the new ones are 2ms and 22" . although these things arn't really cons as it seems 5ms is plenty fast for all the games i have tried. the built in speakers that come on these LCD monitors are a joke anyway--so you get some cost savings buy not having speakers that you will never use. the screen being only .4" smaller than the new ones certainly isn't an issue for me and unless you break out the measuring tape i don't think you'll find the size of a 21.6" vs a 22" to be worth the worry. the stand is sort of short--might not be a real problem though-- if your gong from a 19" or smaller CRT. this is going to be a big adjustment to the new super-sized 21.6" asus vw221D!!

Overall Review: new egg gave a great deal--delivered it in two days thanks to their nearby TN warehouse & UPS. arrived at my door in perfect shape. if you want a quality basic LCD monitor, with a large screen for it's reasonable price. i don't think you can beat the asus vw221d @ newegg !!

one stick dead after 3 days.

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBXL

Pros: was fast and stable. before the one stick started going bad. asus m4a79 id it as 1600 ram. low voltage of 1.5v

Cons: one stick died after just three days. i had a couple crashes in a video game. then i had some problems with the SATA, then i started having post freezes and BSOD's i swapped everything around and found that one stick would run fine. the other would not even POST. much less past memtest.

Overall Review: i have never had a problem with Gskill ram before. i was just unlucky and got a bad stick. new egg issued a RMA for refund. i had to send both sticks back and pay a small restock fee. so it is back to the ancient back up box till the new ram arrives! good news is that the egg had some 2x4gig sticks on sale in 1300 so i am going to give g-skill another go. i really wanted 8gb anyway! LOL!

so far so good

GIGABYTE B650 AORUS PRO AX AM5 LGA 1718 AMD B650 ATX Motherboard, DDR5, USB 3.2 Gen2X2 Type-C, WiFi 6E, Intel 2.5GbE LAN, Q-Flash Plus, EZ-Latch
GIGABYTE B650 AORUS PRO AX AM5 LGA 1718 AMD B650 ATX Motherboard, DDR5, USB 3.2 Gen2X2 Type-C, WiFi 6E, Intel 2.5GbE LAN, Q-Flash Plus, EZ-Latch

Pros: this gigabyte is the direct competitor to the MSI 650 tomahawk , it is sort of a no-frills master with nearly the same VRM. booted up with no problems other than the typical slow boot with 7600x, 32mb of ddr 6000 which it booted up first time as ddr 4800--second boot after turning on XMP it went to 6000, this board has most everything you could want . temps are running about 10c warmer than the socket 4 set up with the same water cooling . seems solid so far.

Cons: the board is somewhat tight on space around the CPU socket , my water pump/cooler bumps the pcie 5.0 cooling block . out of several water cooling set ups i have only ONE uses the OEM backplate. so the odds ain't real good that whatever you used on your am4 build is going to fit --this ain't the MBs fault its an AM5 thing. as the tighe space around the am5 socket and pic5 socket being bumped by a cpu cooler. these things can be worked out though. no manual came with the MB--

Overall Review: YES its a good board and has a bios that will boot up --so you not stuck with a MB that requires a bios flash just to get it up and running.. it could use a bit more space for the CPU socket or a redesigned pci-e 5.0 cooler . maybe a better set up for standard water cooler set ups? boar seems to have about everything you might need, though it would be a better deal IF it was priced more like its intel sisters-

works like a charm.

GLOTRENDS M.2 PCIe NVMe 4.0/3.0 Adapter with 0.12 Inch Thick M.2 Heatsink for M.2 PCIe SSD (NVMe and AHCI), PCI-E GEN4 Full Speed, Desktop PC Installation (PA09-HS)
GLOTRENDS M.2 PCIe NVMe 4.0/3.0 Adapter with 0.12 Inch Thick M.2 Heatsink for M.2 PCIe SSD (NVMe and AHCI), PCI-E GEN4 Full Speed, Desktop PC Installation (PA09-HS)

Pros: easy install no drain of speed on a pcie 3.0 ssd worth it ---to get out of messing with those TINY screws down in a crowded case

Cons: no real cons except it takes up a port on the MB

Overall Review: i think i like the full size version better, but this also works and is inexpensive solution for adding a ssd to your system.

seems great

SAMSUNG 980 M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.4 V-NAND MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V8V1T0B/AM
SAMSUNG 980 M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.4 V-NAND MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-V8V1T0B/AM

Pros: excellent software, drive is quite fast. easy to install , fairly cool, and a great deal for the $$$ the only question of this drive is how long it will last. --so far excellent for a home PC.

Overall Review: outstanding

reasonably fast not too expensive either.

Seagate BarraCuda Q5 M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe 1.3 3D QLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) ZP1000CV3A001
Seagate BarraCuda Q5 M.2 2280 1TB PCIe Gen3 x4 NVMe 1.3 3D QLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) ZP1000CV3A001

Pros: this q5 ssd seems pretty fast, easy to locate by the system, and seems to be a great choice for a home computer. in benchmarks is is right behind the samsung 980 with the power boost off. it may not be the hot ticket for moving huge files but for regular computing these things rock. just about any SSD is going to be a huge leap up from a mechanical drive and with the inexpensive add in cards even a slightly older system can get the speed of a SSD system.

Cons: the samsung 980 seems a tad faster though the difference is not noticable in the real world. samsung has better software. very few cons so far to this drive. i don't think you can go wrong with either drive--

Overall Review: would i buy another q5? maybe --though i am also tempted to try the crucial or WD 4.0 , i also like the samsung 970 evo
